The new frame, dubbed the Jekyll for its ability to quickly morph its personality, is an enormous breakthrough in full-suspension frame design.

The Jekyll's secret is in its threaded rear shock mounting collar, which mates to beefy, corresponding threads on the rear shock's outer shell. Thread the shock aft through the mounting collar, and the bike transforms itself into a nimble cross-country bike. Thread the shock forward through the collar and you've got the stable steering and lower center of gravity provided by a slack head angle and low bottom bracket. Between the full-forward and full-aft positions, the frame offers virtually limitless adjustments so its performance can be precisely dialed-in to a rider's individual preferences.

The pivoting rear shock mounting collar is the key element in the Jekyll's broad range of adjustability. The sturdy threads on the mounting collar mate with corresponding threads on the shock body, and simply adjusting their relative positions determines the frame's geometry and handling characteristics. Thread the shock to the fully aft position, and the Jekyll possesses 'tight' geometry - a steep head tube angle and higher bottom bracket. For slacker frame geometry and a lower bottom bracket (effectively lowering the bike's center of gravity) thread the shock forward through the mounting collar to cruise the descents. Rather than dictating the shock positions (and the resulting geometry options) with three or four pre-drilled holes in the frame, the Jekyll's innovative design allows minute adjustments to the frame geometry and bike-handling characteristics. Better still, the rider doesn't suffer reduced travel by adjusting the geometry, nor does the rider have to re-sag the shock or adjust the shock's air pressure.

THE PIVOT POINT

The Jekyll also features an integrated, CNC-machined bottom bracket shell and swingarm pivot mount that improves strength and reduces weight. The pivot itself is four and a half inches wide for fantastic resistance to flex, and its long-lasting sealed cartridge bearings won't develop slop or play over time. The CNC'd bottom bracket shell is double-butted, with non-essential material machined away from the central two-thirds of its inner surface and the original wall left intact at both ends for secure mounting of the bottom bracket cups.

THE SWING-ARM

The Jekyll's unique, innovative frame couples the sturdiness and time-proven design of a lightweight butted tubeset with Cannondale's patented tab-and-slot construction. And unlike other "adjustable" geometry designs, the Jekyll doesn't sacrifice rear-wheel travel to the whims of tunable geometry. Dial in your preferred head angle and bottom bracket height, and you'll still get a full 4.5 inches of travel. Most Jekylls use the disc-specific CAAD4 welded aluminum swingarm developed for our revolutionary Raven frames, while others incorporate a bonded aluminum swingarm for compatibility with disc or cantilever brakes. Both swingarms combine light weight, stiffness and efficiency with the optimized pivot placement perfected for our full-suspension Super V and Raven frames.

As with every Cannondale frame, the Jekyll is hand-crafted at our factory in Bedford, Pennsylvania. TIG-welded and heat-treated with 6061-T6 aluminum tubing, the Jekyll has passed exhaustive testing at our in-house testing facility, the Q-Lab.

THE HEADTUBE

The Jekyll also features a CNC-machined head tube borrowed from our CAAD5 frames. The head tube is essentially double-butted around two-thirds of its circumference, with material machined away from its outer surface. The original wall thickness remains intact along its upper and lower edges for secure mounting of the headset cups, and along its back surface for strength at the top tube and down tube welds.

THE TOTAL PACKAGE

The world's most versatile full-suspension mountain bike: Super-rigid HeadShok fork with the industry's only on-the-fly lockout, all-weather dual disc brakes, and top-shelf CODA componentry. The only thing missing is compromise...and weight.

Editor's Note: The Jekyll is available in 4 models, the top of the line 3000SX, 900SX, 3000SL and 900SL. The 3000 series features Cannondale's 100mm HeadShok Lefty while the 900 series includes the HeadShok Fatty Ultra DL with 70mm of travel. An XTR drivetrain is highlighted on the SX models and Shimano's workhorse XT/LX combo make up the SL's drivetrain. Pricing and availability was not available at the time of publishing.
