Great bike for the price. Bought secondhand for $250 as first full suspension bike. Stock except for brakes, seat, stem and grips.
Cons:
Heavy by XC standards, but so am I....

I love this bike. It very comfortable. It handles great, does all the jumps I''m interested in. I don''t think there could be a better first bike. I''m ready to move toward a more "all mountain" bike because I''ve moved from the single track scene to include more technical riding that really needs more range in my suspension. I''m not going to sell this bike, we''ve been through too much together.
its the strong looks cool lite and is madely with a fox vanilla 125 rlc.
Cons:
it is almost prfect but its a hade bike to find

Pros:
Suspension: Judy SL U-turn Absorbs the hits very well. AlexRims Ace-18 are strong and Hubs have excellent travel with almost no drag.
Cons:
Weight: Heavy Components. Crankset is terrible, and chainguard looks tacky. Avid brakes are just decent.

DS1 2004 is an excellent entry level bike. Some modifications can make it slightly better, but paying for the extras, you might as well put in the cash to buy the next level up. I modified to Hayes Hydraulic disc brakes, Shimano Deore Crankset, and SPD pedals. Rides good but still want to upgrade more.

Pros:
Nice and beefy, the thing runs like a tank over just about anything you can throw in front of it. You can hit some sick jumps and not feel like your frame is gong to break.
Cons:
Weight. That and I bought it at Art's Cyclery in SLO, and the staff there is a bunch of marginalizing, condescending a**holes who overcharge everyone unless you're grabbing your ankels for them. As far as the bike goes, like I mentioned before, the thing weighs a ton, and it comes with crappy componentry.

Comments:
The only original thing about my bike is the frame, as everything else has been upgraded. It'll take good-sized jumps, and has a solid feel to it. I've ridden it for a year now, and I'm ready to move on to something else. A good beginner to intermediate biker's ride.

Dandog, sounds like you just have a bad bike shop! I broke my first frame in the same place over a 15ft gap and when I took it back not only did I get the replacement frame in the same week Giant up graded my rear shock for free and no out of pocket costs for me. Since I've recieved free Sticker kits and a couple tee's. I know it doesn't sound like much but what other bike builder is gonna do all that for ya! And yes, I have extensively upgraded my bike from the fork to the hubs. All in all, I love my frame and I'm still trying to break this one for over a yr now!

I just want to replace my earlier review. I just found the welds around the rear shock were breaking. It was still under warranty so I took it back. They have had it for a month, will charge me $100 for the replacement frame and extra parts which will not fit this new frame. I havent' been jumping and that frame should not have broken. I will not have another Giant. Poor Quality and bad customer service.

Pros:
Low price high quality, can't beat it! Nice easy to adjust rear shock. Sturdy frame, easy to carry when needed. Can upgrade cheap parts and have a high quality low cost bike. Looks great.
Cons:
Front rings, BB and cranks, all cheap sun mgf. Exposed portions of brake and shifter cables allow rusting and require frequent cleaning.

Comments:
Best bang for the buck! If I ever do upgrade it will be another Giant, one with hydraulic brakes. I've upgraded the front rings, BB, and cranks and couldn't be happer. The reflective paint works very well, easy to see. I've put on over 1000 very tough miles, lots of jumps & bumps, still performs like new. Fenders really dress it up.

This bike is the best bike ive had so far iv had five bikes of great potential the components are not exactally top shelf but they can put up with all the shit on the trails.
Cons:
the only cons for this bike are that some of the components are made by giant so u can only get them serviced in certaiin spots
