Pros: INDESTRUCTIBLE and LIGHTWEIGHT old-school steel hardtail frame.
Cons: Originally spec'ed out with lower-end components (other than the derailleurs), and BELIEVE IT OR NOT a rigid fork ('95 model frame).
Time Used: More than 2 years
Comments: I bought this bike originally in early '96 as a left-over '95. Since then the only original components left are the derailleurs and the front wheel. I've upgraded to first a Judy XC front fork then again 2 years ago to a Sid XC. SRAM grip shift, LX V-Brakes and levers, Deore Hollow-Point cranks, Shimano 505 pedals, Bontrager CrowBar riser, ONE seat post, Bontrager (sella san marco) seat, Mavic 618 rear wheel with shimano XT hub, Cane Creek S-Pro headset.
Rating: 4
Recommendation: Yes I would recommend it to a friend

Pros: The bike is fairly cheap. It some descent components.
Cons: The fork has too much travel for climbing hills. The rear suspension is nice but if you expect to climb big hills good luck.
Time Used: More than 2 years
Comments: My crank arm kept coming loose and I eventually had to put loctite on it.

Pros: Awesome bike for just about anything. Great looks and great reliability. For the money it's one of the best buys out there
Cons: Mine's a 96 iboc and i can't upgrade the back brake so it really sucks
Time Used: More than 2 years
Comments: Upgraded old crappy rock shox to Manitou black sports, upgraded tires so the bike can climb roots easier. Upgraded seat to a more comfortable one.. put some funny mongoose stickers on it. I love how it doesnt have paint just a chrome finish so it's really hard to see scratches. I would compare this bike easily to my friends Klein. and he paid double the price for a bike that always has chipping of paint and braking parts

Pros: Comes with semi-decent components. Good for XC at first but can be upgraded and handle freeride. EASILY upgradble..Single Pivot 7005/Cromo frame. Frame weight is only 6lbs.. thats only one more pound than the same type of frame built by santa cruz
Cons: RST Gamma 80mm has bad rebound and is very stiff. Terrible stock bottom bracket (destroyed in about 4 months.)
Time Used: More than 2 years
Comments: This is a good bike to start with and its so easy to upgrade. This was my first Full suspension bike.. and it is my current full suspension bike. My setup is as follows; Marzocchi Z1 Freeride 2002 Fox Float RL rear shock Shimano XT rear derailleur XT Front Derailleur Deore XT Disc Hubs Sun SingleTrack disc rims Avid 6 inch mechanical disc brakes Avid Full metal jacket cables/housing Weyless Magnesium platform pedals WTB Wierwolf 2.5 front tire WTB Mutanoraptor 2.24 rear Compared to what this bike started off with.. you can see this bike was able to be upgraded and nothing had to be retrofitted at all. Frame has held up to about 500 miles of Freeride, XC and some pretty hard downhill abouse. oops, and i will recomend this to a friend..
