This bike generaly kicks butt, but it needs some upgrades if your planning on riding it off road. The fork is no good (why would they put such a weak fork on a 19inch frame, I would have to be 6'2" and 120pounds to ride that thing!) I twisted the arch and front rim on a nothing bump and almost broke my neck. Anyways apart from a few cheap parts this is a good bike.

Pros:
Genesis geometry(I am 6' 2"), Manitou shock with lockout, Deore rear derailleur
Cons:
Alivio front derailleur, seat(as discussed by others), Suspension could be a little stiffer
Time Used:
Less Than A Month
Comments:
I have a full suspension bike, but wanted to get a bike to relive the hardtail feeling. The Marlin was my choise after looking at many bikes.....it simply felt right witht he geometry. I plan on upgrading the front derailleur in time, along with adding bar-ends, and clipless pedals. Simply stated, this bike is a fun ride.

Cons:

As I was improving on my riding I have changed a few things. seat, bars, stem, deraiullers, seatpost and brakes... Planning on getting new crankset/bb, cassette, wheelset and forks after all ive had the bike for 6 years now and gave it a beating. Ive done cross country, lite downhill, urban riding, small dirt jumping and its been great!

Pros:
Great balance and an easy ride out of the box. Worth every cent, I have had it for three years and the frame has taken a good pounding. It fell 90 ft. and remained straight and strong.
Cons:
Like said before the seat had to go, and the derailers and rims were a little weak for my taste. It is a little heavy too, but not back breaking.
Time Used:
More than 2 years
Comments:
A great bike for the price and it has out lasted both my Trek 8000 and Diamond Back. If you like to ride hard and want to keep the frame invest a few hundred into the shifting components and suspension. I put about $375 into upgrades and it keeps up with my friends $800 dollar and more bikes pretty well.

Pros:
I love this bike! Lot's of bike for the money. Strong frame, and it has great componets. The genises geometry is great. I beat up this bike and it still keeps going, i only had to bring it back to the shop once, that was my fault! I recomend this bike to all begginers and novice bike riders, it is a great bike!!!!
Cons:
The rear derealer is not the best for extreme bumps, then again the bike is not made for that.

Pros:
Smooth on the shifts. A very solid ride, especially for the price. The geometry makes a difference. I have tried many other bikes and the genesis geo. just makes the bike handle like it's part of you. Pretty light for the price also.
Cons:
The seat has to go, however you should always ride with bike shorts.

My bike has held up to abou 250 miles in a years worth of rough riding. I am getting a more expensive bike, but that's because this bike has made me fall in love with the sport. I will definitely keep this bike and continur to ride it, I just like the idea of having a steel frame 27 speeds.
Shimano Avilio front derailiurs suck, required constant adjusting. Only 8 speeds.

Pros:
I had an older 99/2000 steel model. Frame was heavy but very strong and extremely stiff. Comes witha decent wheelset built onto Rhino lites. RST 281 served its time and did pretty good.
Cons:
Heavy in steel, cheaper Shimano altus gear (now specced with Deore i think) didn't work too good. Little travel in the RST 281's but a challenge to see what they could take

Comments:
All round nice hardtail with good looks, good strength, and confidence inspiring. Dodgy running gear however.
