Pros: I can''t seem to damage the damned thing.
Cons: my only complaint is the same complaint i have with any bike, I can''t keep air in the tires.
Time Used: More than 2 years
Comments: I have fully enjoyed this bike. I gave the bike a Five star rating because The bike is everything I wanted it to be.
Rating: 5
Recommendation: Yes I would recommend it to a friend

Pros: Bike is light, nice paint job
Cons: The bike seat post will not stay tight. The result is that the post was resting on the screw post for the water bottle and it pushed it through the frame. Thole in the frame is really big cannot ride the bike anymore.
Time Used: 1 Year
Comments: When i bought my gary fisher marlin bike i asked the sales person if a aluminum frame was a strong as a steel frame. Adam the salesperson assured me that not only where aluminum frames as strong but they were lighter. Adam said the frame comes with a lifetime warranty, i am the first owner. But then when the seat post pushed the screw for the water out through the frame, i was told that this is somehow my fault. The bike still has all the original parts that the bike came with nothing changed. My bike is still is near mint condition minus the hole. Gary fisher has been giving me the run around to get my bike fixed. The reason for the hole, is that my seat post even if you tighten it as hard as possible it still moves down, as you ride the bike. Maybe 1/2 inch after a 2 hour ride, no matter how hard you tighten it it still moves down, i took it to the shop where it was bought, they tried to tighten the post it still moved. Due to the post moving the water bottle screw which was too long, was pushed out through the frame. I didn''t think that the post should be able to catch on the screw in the first place, why was it made to long. My bike has been in the shop where the bike was purchased for one month now, waiting for some decision, on if gary fisher bikes will honor their own warranty or not why would you say the bike has a lifetime warranty if you have no intentions of fixing peoples bikes. Both the bike shop and gary fisher have said not to ride the bike until the frame is replaced, since it cannot be fixed. if i could go back in time now knowing what i know about their bikes and how they treat their customers, i would not buy it again, if you are reading this and thinking about a new gary fisher bike do yourself a favor don''t buy gary fisher or trek bikes.

Pros: The frame is the only decent thing !
Cons: Purchased this bike in November 2008. Since then I have replaced the seat post, seat & handle bars. All of this was not covered under warranty! Now just this Saturday the bearings in the cassette came loose and all the ball bearings fell out !
Time Used: 3 Months
Comments: Seriously Gary Fisher & Trek should be ashamed of themselves for putting such sub-par/poor quality out with their name on it ! Fixing this thing and selling it for whatever I can get to recoup the money I have lost & spent on it !

Pros: at least it didn't cost me very much.
Cons: sorry folks, completely agree with phil (what's up with this board not allowing me to use caps?)
Time Used: 3 Months
Comments: see phil's comments below. he is completely on the money. i landed here because i was prompted to search the net to see if my experience with this bike was isolated. i have 15 years of cycling experience and 6 mountain bikes, and this thing has crapped out in every possible way. it looks like brand new still but is not rideable. i had to pirate a crank off a better bike; the bottom bracket comes loose; the rear axle is now waaaay bent, and there's an inexplicable amount of easy flex in the rear triangle; with every pedal stroke the rear tire now rubs on the frame due to the flex. tonight may have been the last ride. i bought the bike used but if i'd bought it new i would make the dealer eat it and not rest until i received a full refund. i have only used this bike for slow city riding . . . completely bizarre.

Pros: Good Riding Position, Solid Frame (I'm searching for something good to say here)
Cons: Crap components and transmission. Generally Fragile.
Time Used: 3 Months
Comments: Seriously... The Gary Fisher Tarpon bike is trash. If you plan on doing anything close to trail riding or are going to ride your bike often spend some more money and get a real mountain bike (in the end it will save you $$ and frustration). I'm warning you DO NOT buy this bike. My ten year old CCM puts this bike to shame (in fact this is what I end up riding on trails most often since the Gary Fisher is always broken). I have had it for one summer and have broken the bottom bracket 3x, the rear axel and quick releases 2x, and the crank. The components on this bike really do leave much to be desired. The seat and pedals are also sub par. I have had so many problems they have decided their supposed 1 year warranty no longer applies. Seriously..... if you want to really ride STAY AWAY from this hunk of junk!

Pros: Nice inexpensive bike. Pleasantly surprised with what I got for the money.
Cons: Derailleurs. Both front and rear have required adjusting lately. Also when running in the highest gear on the rear cog, the chain will rub against the lower gear on the front cog. This appears to be a design flaw, I have not been able to fix it.
Time Used: 1 Year
Comments: I was originally spoiled with a Cannondale F500 at work, and was upset when I could only afford the Tarpon. This thing really comes alive on the trails. Things get a little rough with no suspension, but it handles well.
