Pros: good starter bike
Cons: cheap-will fall apart
Time Used: NULL
Comments: I left a review a few years ago. For 99 percent of people this is a good bike. But its nothing like a real mountain bike. Mine eventually fell apart. This isnt a real mountain bike it just looks like one-now that I got serious into biking I got a good bike and I see why these fall apart. There arnt any bearings in the frame, the crank is stupidly cheap. and the shocks arnt real-they look like shocks but they are nothing but springs- if you put enough force on it it will bounce. Still I did beat it hard and had fun for a while. big difference from 189 walmart xr250 to my 2400.00 jamis. But its the bike that got me into the sport and when I see one its like seeing my first car :)

Pros: Econobike it is,
Cons: Heavy,can you give me a hand,(lol)
Time Used: 1 Year
Comments: I use it to commute, pot holes, railroad crossings back rim breaking spokes like it going out of style, super stiff front shock, I sat on softer bricks the seat is a groin killer, and the front disk brakes can be heard a mile away, mongoose shame on you!!! You can do better.

Pros: Great solid frame, front disc brake, strong wheels.
Cons: Rear Derailer became loose after some crazy riding nothing i couldn''t fix.
Time Used: Less Than A Month
Comments: Awesome bike, especially for buying it for only $60 second hand. Held up better than I thought it would. If you dont know how to maintain or aren''t mechanically savy then you''re just dumb for giving it such a bad review. Everything we buy will always have it''s lemons, stuff break all the time regardless of how much it costed you. It''s all a matter of taking care of the damn thing. That is all.

Pros: Great sturdy, heavy duty bike, I like the gear shift/ brake combo, The wide trail marker tires are great!! Overall structure of the bike is great, But does have its problems..
Cons: Heavy (Hard to ride up hills), Had to replace goose neck (Handle bars kepped coming loose), The bear claw pedals that came with it broke after a couple months (Plastic and metal! NOT a good combo), NEEDS TO HAVE A WATER BOTTLE SPOT?), The rims that came with it are too thin (I bent the rear rim, had to replace with stronger one), The wheel axels are very weak (Can''t with stand too much force), The de-railer was all wrong had to reajust it so I could shift to the Low gear, Had a few gear shift problems, The retail seat is way uncomfortable!!.
Time Used: More than 2 years
Comments: After 2 yrs of owning this bike. I can no longer shift gears at all? Not sure why! maybe something with the rear gears? Can anybody help resolve this issue? Please!!

Pros: Great frame. Suspension is good. Brakes (front) could use more oomph. The stock gearing was a little high (smaller chainrings than what I needed). After I changed them the gearing is great.
Cons: Seat is a brick. Get a different seat. I put motocross handlebars (yes, Motocross bars) in place of the stock bars. Much better control with the wider bar. Also put on Avenir bar ends on which are nice.
Time Used: 1 Year
Comments: Have had the bike for the better part of a year now. Rode my half century this fall on this bike (on a 43 pound bike it was quite the workout). I have no beefs at all with this bike. It has done everything I have asked it to. If you are wanting a bike to really hammer the trails with, I would look elsewhere, but if you use it for light trails and roads like I do, it is great. Am looking forward to spring and more riding.

Pros: Most of the bike
Cons: Brakes and suspension squeaks a little bit (nothing wd-40) didn''t fix. The seats not comfy.

Comments: I got this for christmas ablout three years ago. i live in new hampshire nd ride it in the heavy snow. i weigh 145 nd it tears through every trail ive taken it on. Iive done 45mph on it downhill and about 35 on flat ground with no worries. Best bike ive ever owned. my house burnt down nd the bike held up perfectly leanin up agains the back where temperatures got up to 9000 degrees i still ride this bike today. Nd wen i ride i ride HARD nothings broken. When i got it i took it apart nd put it back together not because anything was wrong but just because i was bored. The gears needed a little tuning nd i shortened the brake cable to bolth disks. This bike is great. every1 who has conplained just needs to realize wal mart is responsible for the employees putting it together. I would reccomend this bike to anybody. Only place it hasnt been yet is down a mountain.

Pros: plush suspension
Cons: wieght, fork could be better

Comments: well this is a bit late to write a review. i bought this bike in 06'' so i now it pretty well by now. when i first bought this bike i was very pleased kid, it held up well and i learned to love mountain biking. As i increased the intensity of my ride the bike grew old- fast. what can i say, i don''t wanna shoot this bike down- its still rollin today! And its put up with a lot of crap that cheaper bikes just aren''t designed for. bottom line, wanna ride the pro stuff? get a pro bike! but if you wanna stick to the light trails at the park this will do the job for quite a while.

Pros: Brakes, front suspension, shifters,
Cons: rear suspension could use a real shock,
Time Used: 3 Months
Comments: I have now had this bike for about 3 months and have made more changes. I changed out the 44,34,24 chainrings for a 48,38,28 set with cranks. I now find that my riding (smooth trails and roads) is mostly spent on the middle ring, not the top ring). I can maintain a consistent 12.9 mph in the smallest chainring with the rear in seventh. Before the gear change my speed was about 10 to 10.5 in the same gear positions. Nice change. I just completed a 43 mile weekend (14 miles one day then 29 the next) and plan on a 50 mile ride in a single day soon. Remember to adjust your gears and brakes, or they won''t work right and you will ruin them. This is a good bike, and I am very much enjoying it.

Pros: sturdy, disc brake, BIG tires, price, gear ratio
Cons: had to fix gears, rear brake troubles (might have been default in mine), shocks
Time Used: 1 Year
Comments: for a little less than $200 this is a GREAT bike. ive had it for almost 2 years. only thing is sometimes my gears will slip when i put too much pressure on them, but only in certain gears. i also had to adjust my brakes a few times but, not much of a problem. overall, its a good bike. you can climb very steep hills and and go quite fast too.

Pros: sharp looking bike nice ride good equipment needs some upgrades
Cons: front stock derailer doesnt shift well at all big tires makes bike hard to ride not enough rolling resistance with them needs big changes frame is heavy stock seat is uncomfortable
Time Used: 1 Year
Comments: ok enough with all the put downs on this bike true the derailer that came with the bike was really junk i replaced it with a sram derailer now is shifts great. I replaced the tires replaced with smaller profile tire man what a difference that made handles even better rolls 100% better replaced the pedals with shimano dx sdp much better contact with the clipless system compred to stock setup installed new bontrager mountain bike seat mucch better comfort still the bike runs even better than new this walmart ride is sweet now just needed some changes looking forward for many good years of service out of my XR 250 the goose is loose so watch out!!!

Pros: Great brakes. Very smooth ride. Front fork is not sloppy or bouncy. Tracks very straight. Gear train works great. Climbing gears are low enough to easily climb fairly steep hills.
Cons: Seat is a brick.
Time Used: Less Than A Month
Comments: From the outset please understand I use my bike for street and light trail use. I do not use this bike for mountain riding. I chose this bike because it offers a very smooth ride (after putting on Bontrager 2.00 smooth tires) with the suspension. I have had a different mongoose (efx) in the past, and the xr250 has better suspension. The front fork is stiff enough to not bottom out and works great for me. The rear suspension is adjusted to max tightness and seems to work quite well. Some of the things I have done to this bike are: changed out the bars for a motocross bar (honda crf450 bars). Changed out the tires for Bontrager 2.00 smooth tires. Changed out the seat with a Bell anatomic seat. Put on Avenir bar ends on my wider mx bars. Put on a 12 function cycle computer. This bike will require adjustments out of the box. I had to adjust the brakes and the gear-train, and once I did they work Very well. I have had the bike up to 35mph downhill so far and it was as stable as a person could ask for.

Pros: good tires, rims, shifters. back suspension is ''ok'' if the spring is matched to your weight and you are ok with 1.5 inch travel. biggest pro is the price.
Cons: the front disc brake is absolutely worthless. continual unfixable shifting problems. front fork is worthless. very heavy. dangerous on downhills
Time Used: 3 Months
Comments: bought this bike hoping to do some light to moderate trail riding. wasn''t sure if bike shop bikes were hype or not so decided to try this bike before making a bigger investment. maybe lighter riders are having more luck but within 3 months I stripped the seat retaining bolt and the bolts for the handlebars. front fork is useless...the seals blew out immediately and it''s basically frozen. this puts more work on the back which makes the ride feel weird. by far the biggest disappointment is the front brake. absolutely zero stopping power on downhill, and I mean ZERO. This puts more work on the back brake which skids and tears up the trail. after three months of riding, the rear hub is slightly bent and i''ll be shocked if this bike is going to make it a year. It''s not all bad news. excellent tires and so far no rim problems. rapid fire shifters are quite nice. Bottom line is that with about 200$ of upgrades and professional tuning, this bike could actually be pretty decent. in the end though I think if you are going to go full suspension that is actually good, it starts around a grand. 400$ will buy you a nice hard tail which will be much nicer and more reliable.

Pros: inexpensive bike, will do fine on smooth paved trails.
Cons: inexpensive bike, will not do well offroad at all. fork has no adjustability, rear shock has no rebound damping, making it a pogo stick.
Time Used: Just Once
Comments: Mongoose has recieved a bad name for bikes like this, and other sold in walmart and kmart and the like, with the mongoose logo on them. The difference between a bike like the XR series, or even the 300 dollar blackcomb, is that they are mass marketed not to serious riders, but to casual cyclists. A suspension fork, and rear shock does not make this bike ready to go riding the gnarliest trails you can find, not at all. the differences between this bike and the professional level mongoose bikes you will find at dedicated bike shops, is the level of engineering which goes into frame design, the selection of quality alloys used in the frame, proper heat treatment of the frame, and the quality of the components that come stock on the bike. this of course means they are more expensive, it also means they work better, for longer, and are lighter weight. normally you find 7 speed, maybe 8 speed rear cog sets on department store bikes, where 9 speed is the current standard in bike shops. the disc brakes from pro-max are junk, they are weak, and terribly ineffective, a good set of V-brakes gives better stopping force. the promax also squeal badly and are nearly impossible to set up correctly (so that both pads hit the rotor evenly). most mechanical disc brakes that come on bike shop bikes are much more adjustable, and FAR more powerfull, brakes from either AVID or shimano, or hayes are going to be what you''d like to see, not pro-max. Because so many people see these awefull bikes in walmart that say mongoose on them, the assumtion is, "Wow mongoose must have really become a crap brand since i was a kid" when really, they just started selling cheap bikes as well as good ones when they were bought out by the duvell group. mongoose continues to make professional level bikes, you just can''t buy them at walmart. there''s the old saying "you get what you pay for" but here''s another equally true saying for you. "buy it nice, or buy it twice"

Cons: this is not an advanced bike but great for a person who wants a good on/off road bike. read below....

Comments: I have had to use the warranty on this bike 2 times first was for the front derailer and second was when i took the bike over a plastic speed bump way to fast broke the rear wheel hub. i ordered a part for the bike however it was on backorder for about 4 months so i kept calling to find out when the part would be mailed out it never came so after the 4 months they sent me a FREE replacement bike did not even pay shipping brand NEW. my advice is to keep the sales recipt in GREAT condition and register thewarranty asap. All in all this bike is fine for me now but if i wanted a real mountain bike and had the extra cash i would go with a trek 100%. but for now this bike is great. i have a lot of fun on it.

Pros: Good accessories, shifters work great after some adjustments, disk brake works well, nice tires and wheel assembly.
Cons: Heavy frame, weak design in the rear chainstay sway bar, no accessory mounts (i.e. water bottles etc). cannot adjust any of the shocks, no rebound limiter or dampening
Time Used: 1 Year
Comments: I rode this bike for a year pretty hard on pavement and some light trails, held up great... however the rear frame cracked, then snapped a few days later after jumping the bike from a small 3 foot tall ledge. the bike is not as sturdy as it feels, but it is nice for the price. Don''t expect to use this bike for anything other than street riding, it will break in a matter of minutes on a hard trail.

Pros: Sharp looking bike, nice paint job.
Cons: Front fork is too soft and non-adjustable, disk brake squeaks, wheel reflectors are cheezy and don''t stay tight, handle bar clamp keeps coming loose (even with lock tight), front derailer not up to par. At over 37 lbs, it''s far too heavy for a bike with an aluminum frame.
Time Used: 3 Months
Comments: I found this one at Walmart for $169.00 marked down from $225.00 so I thought I was getting a good deal.....I was wrong. The saying goes "You get what you pay for", I''m not even sure I got that much. Years ago when I was a kid, I had a Mongoose BMX bike and not only was it a top quality bike, it was also one of the most sought after bikes back then and one of the best bikes I''ve ever owned. Apparently, Mongoose has slipped a few notches as far as quality goes. A sticker on the rear arm says "Shimano Equiped". The only "Shimano" parts on the bike are the rachet shifters! The derailers are two different brands. I don''t know if the fault rests on Mongoose or Walmart but, the first one I bought had a warped brake disk, warped front sprockets and the front derailer was bent. I took it back to exchange it and managed to get one still in it''s box. The front disk on the new one is still slightly warped but, nowhere near as bad as the first one and the front sprockets seem to be ok.

Comments: I was going to Wal-Mart to buy a 300$ mongoose Blackcomb, and saw this bike for a 100 bucks on cleareance, so I bought it and I felt pleased on saving 200$ because these 2 bikes had minor differences, I rode this bike from the store to my house and didnt give me problems at all. I think its a good bike, depending on the use, and its going to last longer if its used to go on a road, I would recommend a little tunning for those that live on the country because this bikes are not manufactured by mongoose, they only sell the frames and the rest of the parts to wal-mart and they take care of assembling it.

Pros: Looks nice, theres really no other pros to this bike. I kept hoping i just got a bad one, i went back exchange it for another one, same thing happens. support is nonexistent from mongoose.
Cons: Honestly, this is the WORST bike i have ever had. do not waste your money on this. i paid 200 dollars for this bike and i wish i had gotten a used bike of a decent brand instead.
Time Used: 1 Year
Comments: different parts on this bike began failing after about a month and by the end of the year i was already taking it to the dumpster. all i did is ride it to class daily, never took it on any trails, nothing really intensive. the rims are extremely low quality alloy and got bent almost immediately, thus causing breaks to stop working properly as well. trust me, stay away from this bike.

Cons: you get what you pay for. crappy fork. weak breaks.

Comments: i believe that there are two versions of this bike. theres one that has a 4 link suspension and then there is one thats just a single pivot average walmart mountian bike. i have the one that has the 4 link suspension. i spent about 200 bucks on this bike and i can say it was a 200 dollars well spent. ive had freinds whom have had 1200 dollar trecks and had more problems. like i hear a person on here talking about the back suspension breaking. my freind cracked the downtube just above the bottom bracket the first time he rode it. you get manufacture defects no matter what kind of bike you buy. ive rode this bike really hard at dillon state park on the trails there through rock gardens and over trees. ive beat the hell out of this bike and nothing has broken the rims are still straight as the day i bought them. once you get the drivetrain tuned it works wonderfully. all you gota know how to do is fix and take care of a bike. as for the components. the front fork sucks. it works though. same with the rear suspension. if you think its to soft either you way to much for it or you should tighten it. the breaks are kind of week. my last bike did have shimano deore breaks on it though. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR and then a little bit. tough frame wheels which is worth the 200 bucks.

Comments: I have had this bike for a little over a year now and I am sad to say, it is currently out of order. At the end of the season last year, a towel fell off of my seat, grabbed the crank, and wrenched the front derailer way out of alignment. It was the end of the season, however, so I didn't take it to be fixed right away. Now this year, I have no idea how it is bent, and am looking at some costly repairs. Other than this, the bike is great. I do recommend derailer cages however.

Comments: i was looking at a bike for my daughter and came across this bike on clearance fo 75 bucks! so needless to say im happy with my investment! and well its the snobs bike people whom are opposed to these bikes. i have a friend whom races. and does quit well with his xr 250. of coarse. he replaced and upgraded some components after breaking some things. but like he said the 5000 dollar bikes break also just as much. so there you have it. if your to good to ride this bike please go waste your money on a snobby overpriced bike. i have owned 2000 bikes and now realize how stupid that was. at the price this bike costs you can add some pretty nice upgrades and sill pay less then a bike from a bike shop

Pros: it was cheap?
Cons: The rear casette, front derailer, very heavy, useless front suspension, rear suspension, isnt much bettere either, tires are more like down hill tires.

Comments: This Bike is great if you want to own a full suspension MTB but never ride it off road. I rode mine for less than 1 month on the street on beginer all the way to advanced trails and it was not good on anyof them. actually the only thing on the bike that I found wasnt garbage was the front brake and it was trouble free. Wal-Mart replaced the cassette twice on it and woulnt refund my money so I could spend it on a good bike. I was told to look at where Wal-Mart sells their bikes from and really think about it. They aren't in the sporting goods section that for sure. If you want to ride on the street, then go buy a good street bike because this one is too heavy. If you want to go ride trails then go and buy a quality trail bike because this one is crap.

Comments: I just wanted to submit to you a review of a bike that costs $1600. You be the judge. Thanks Dick FavoriteTrail: Glenwild Duration Product Used: 1 Year Price Paid: $1600 Strengths: Solid, Great Suspension, Did I mention no bobbing!!! Looks good. Weaknesses: Hayes 9 Brakes are 100% total CRAP!!!!!! the front has been sent back to hayes 2x, and I have bled them at least 5 times. The rims are weak! I busted my front on the 2nd ride, the weld came apart!!! They wouldn't warrantee it because it was in a 'crash' F###!! I was in the crash because the rim blew out!!! Similar Products Tried: Specialized STUMPJUMPER 06 Bike Setup: STOCK, Bottom Line: Good bike, New rims, and brakes are a must!!!!!! Takes high speed downhill better than stumpjumper. Did I mention that the brakes TOTALLY SUCK???? Because they do. Is heavy, but pedals better than stump Jumper. DO NOT BUY 07 FUEL, the O6 is a much better bike! For the price hard to beat. It is a great looking bike!!! Easily scratches.

Pros: #1 Price, Beefy, Sharp Looking
Cons: Chain slips during hard pedaling
Time Used: 1 Year
Comments: I have owned this bike for about 1 year. I ride it often. I love it, it seems to handle great, looks great, stands up to my generous beatings. I took it to the LBS to have the gears tuned and when I got it back it was a little better but not as true as I would like it, the front derailer should be changed. I dont like that the chain slips during hard pedaling, with these problems I still love this bike. This is the bike that I have started MBking with and it has done me justice. I would recommend to a friend. How will you ever know what is good if you dont start from somewhere.

Pros: seems pretty cool after you take off the mud guard and kickstand. not too bad if you dont plan on finding yourself airborne quite often.
Cons: very noisy bike. if the chain isnt grinding on anything, then the rear shock is squeaking, if the shock isnt sqeaking, the crank is creaking, ect, ect. rear shock was kind of mushy, as were the forks. bottomed out on a many jumps. no place for a water bottle. one-size does not fit all. and i hate to say it, but i felt pretty impotent being the one out there on mongoose while everyone around me has specialized and giants.
Time Used: 1 Year
Comments: i know that i commented earlier on how awesome this bike is, but i now see the cold, harsh, harsh reality of walmart bikes. i broke the freewheel twice, bent the bars the first crash, and just didnt like it. to end it all, someone stole it out of my garage. when my brother broke the news to me, he had a consoling tone, but i actually laughed a sign of relief: the bike became like a tumor attached to me, because it was not a good bike, yet i couldnt just throw it out. luckily someone else made my decision for me, and im not proceeding to purchase a bike from Giant. seriously, for how much theyre charging for these things, save up an extra $100 or $200 and get a real bike. dont suffer the stress i had to go through. (ps- if you already have one, im sorry. if you feel the way i did, consider a new bike. if you think im an angry lunatic, stick with it for as long as you are happy with it. its not all about the bike you're on, but how happy you are. happiness is still affected by the bike you're on though)

Pros: Large tires, styling, Rigid Frame,
Cons: Poor assembly, uncomfortable seat, cheap chain.
Time Used: Less Than A Month
Comments: I have have had 3 of these bicycles. First of all, I want to say, that I bought them out of a box, and then bought a display when I returned the one out of the box due to a warped rear sprocket. Also, you all like to blame walmart on the assembly, but if you do then your stupid.. The bicycles come in a box, preassembled minus the front tire, the handle bars, the seat and pedals. All the brake lines, and shifer lines, are pre manufactured, pre tightened so if your complaing you had to adjust it..well then DUH its not walmarts fault. You buy a bike from walmart, those guys dont have time to screw with every bike they have to tune them right, especially when you assume the factory put them together right...blame MONGOOSE FOR THAT.. So now that I got that off my chest, after a whole evening spent tuning my bike, I got it running pretty nice. Im not a big fan of the shifters but they seem to work ok with a little coaxing. The bike handles good, and rides strong. I tuned my girlfriends bike, which is identical to mine, in under 15 mins after I knew what the hell I was doing. Hers runs better them mine, im jealous... Anyways moving on. The bike responds really well, we replaced the seat on her bike with one with gel and a litter larger as the seat wasn't comfortable and ..well she's a chick on a guys bike, it wasn't made for her. The shocks are good, put a little lube on them and they got better. The brakes after minor adjustments are great, gears after adjustments shift fine. For the money, this is a decent bicycle. If you tore it up in a day...well you are probably too big for the bike anyways!! Ive already started doing tricks, bunny hops slaming into curbs...trying to find a breaking point...seems pretty solid to me. The biggest plus about the bike is the frame. Other dual suspension bikes I have seen have crappy frames. The vert bar from the seat to the frame is one peice and not sepearated...nothing more annoying then your frame smashing against each other in the other frame styles. Over all, I would recomend this bike to any light work to medium duty off road. Happy Trails and I hope this helps :)

Comments: I had this bike for about 2-3 months and my free wheel broke, busted the bearing casings in halve costing me $30. this is the second bike that this has happened to. i feel as though i cant take the bike seriously enough to do anything. i was also disappointed to find that it had no rear bikes but it seems to have an attachment on the frame but not on the wheel. other than those problems i absolutely love the bike.the killer big tires, lightweight frame and killer looking rims have gotten me many complements. i really wish i had a rim with a disk break on for the rear. can someone tell me how to get one? i also wish i had a better derailler.

I'm not a hardcore MTBer but nothing ever went wrong with the one that I had. I am taking this one to the LBS to have it tuned and maybe replace the chain. Anyone that is into MTBing hardcore should know better than to try and use a wallymorbid bike to do the things they do. This bike will be just fine for me. I love it! Pros: Strong Frame, which means the bike can be taken seriously when upgraded with better components. Love the Shimano RapidShifters, Front Disc Brake
Cons: Rear V-Brake, i miss a disc brake in the back. Rear Hub bearing was making a grinding noise when i got the bike, had it fixed.(bearing to tight, had to be changed)

Comments: You get what you paid for and what i got was a very decent bike, which needed A LOT of adjustments, which i didn't care for, since i am a technojunkie. Further more, i'm enjoying the thrills of riding a bike again. This bike can take quite a lot of abuse. I live in Suriname, South America and there is a lot of rough terrain here, believe me. Cons: The bike, the warnings, the instructions

Comments: I needed a bike because some beaner stole mine out of my garage so I went to Wal/Wetback-Mart to get a new one. My only thought was a mongoose couldn't possibly be worse than my 10 year old Huffy so I went with the "higher" end XR250. I take it home and get ready for my first ride by equipping a helmet just as the warning said I should do. I sat on the bike and instantly noticed my asscheeks felt like they had been slammed by a sledgehammer. I beared through pain and began to ride. As I rode off of my front curb, the front of the seat cocked upward and penetrated my nether-region in a most disturbing manner while robbing my future of having kids as my testicles burst within. As I fell to the ground in pain I realized the helmet did nothing and nothing about this bike or its warnings were true.

Pros: pro max disc breaks, stong tires , shimnano rapid fire shifters. suspension is adequate.
Cons: a bit heavy, ridiculous mud guard, huge ugly kickstand. ugly uncomfortable seat
Time Used: 6 Months
Comments: I have owned a GT outpost rigid mtb as well as a wally world Mongoose mgx dxr, both recieved miles and miles of use (mainly cross country and free riding.) I purchased the xr 250 at walmart after stumbling upon it in a line of clearance bikes marked down to $123.00. Anyway after replacing the hideous seat with a sette cloud nine and removed the mud guard and kickstand I hit the all my usual trails. cross country this bike handles extremely well and downhill and rough terrain isnt that shabby either though the suspension is a bit soft at times. I usually ride 16-20 miles per day when I ride. This bike is solid and overall a good bargain even at full retail price. Mongoose carries 3 lines of bike the xr 250 is what i consider a midrange mtb with enough style and good enough components for a nice all around bike for the neighborhood rider or off road treking.

Comments: I love the bike. I ride it to and from work almost everyday as I live about 2 miles through the woods from the school that I teach at. I also take it out about every weekend and have fun on the trails. It did need a little adjusting since the guys that put these things together don't test ride every one of them to make sure that they're shifting right. It took about 5 mins to tune it up with an allen wrench. I took it on a pretty aggressive trail and jumped it off a ledge and busted the back tire. However, since these things come from walmart, I took it back and got me another one. It is a good solid bike for the budget minded person. If you want a nicer bike or it bothers your ego to get a bike from walmart, spend 10 times more and have a great time. $189 is a hard price to beat for a bike of this caliber.

Comments: so i get the thing and its pretty cool. i go out and take it on some of the trails out by my house and the things' chair shifts out of position where its riding strait up into my nuts! i was pretty pissed but i replaced some of the seat's parts with another bike's seat part. i still kept the tubing and the sexy seat. i got a cushion because that sexy seat is a bit hard too. when ever i come off jumps, the thing makes this horrible crashing noise when the shock meets the stopper. sometimes the chain would just start jumping gears if i put torque on the pedals. just takes a bit of ajusting and id reccomend getting a heavier chain that is made of high qualty steel, this chain bends to easily. over all, great bike and i love it alot. ride it everywhere.

Pros: REALLy big tires, triger shifters, deep dish rims.
Cons: heavy like a dinosaur, off R shifting, R V brake (disc all the way), crapy R shifter, cheap mud guard (if a stone hit it it would shater like glass), bent handle bar, underinflated tires (had to do it my self with a store pump), F shoxs nearly bottomed on me, assembled by brain dead gorilas at Wal-Fart.

Comments: Saw this thing at Wal-Fart and tried it in a few store isles. tried the brakes and the R ones squeled like a pig. tried a small wheelie and the F shox nealy feel out from under me. tried shifting to the small chainring (the only thing that worked). tried shifting into the granny gear and it almost under fifted into second. Tried to adjust the rear suspention (rock hard). the brain dead gorilas had the thing to tight and the spring slacked off on me. this thing belongs in the dump, and so does Wal-Fart.

Cons: Rear der, rear hub (free wheel, not casette - el cheapo), REAR SHOCK.
Time Used: 6 Months
Comments: Bought bike @ WM - standard fair, had to adjust multiple items (long list) to get things right - replaced tires (Kona road/XC highbred: do both light trails & roads), rear der. replaced (got Alivio - 8 speed, but can be used for 7 speed if properly adjusted) REAR SHOCK - PIECE OF JUNK (950 lbf spring: reason - no dampener!; lots of peddle bop!) - replacing with Fox Vanilla (waiting for mounting hardware - Marzocchi: only vendor that has 80 mm long steel sleeves needed for mounting). If you are mechanically inclined and know when to upgrade (without upsetting the missus too much), this is a good bike for light trails/road travel.

Cons: "Joey" @ Wal-Mart put it together Normal replacement tubes won't work on the v-groove rims
Time Used: 3 Months
Comments: As most others have indicated, it seems to be a good entry level bike but you will have to adjust on it since it was most likely thrown together @ WM. I had to tune out the shifters as well as buy some washers to correctly space out mounting on front disc brake. Good luck finding inner tubes if you get a flat due to the extended length scrader. After my first flat, I put tire liners in and filled the tubes with slime.....all good now.

Pros: awesome disk brake. wide tires give a sense of security. looks flat out sexy. rapid fire shifters are pretty sweet. super fast shifting. once you're done pedaling, it just keeps going.
Cons: the seat is a bit rough on the rear, but id rather bear it than cover or remove that awesome looking seat. tire width and gnarliness kills top speed when riding the streets. (but who would be riding this beast on a road in the first place?) takes some buggering around with before you hit the sweet spot, rather than ready-to-rideness that you would get from a more expensive bike built by a pro
Time Used: Less Than A Month
Comments: many who wrote a bad review on this bike obviously isnt the "pro" that they want you to think that they are. sure, its no $5000 bike, but all in all, this is a really solid bike. the only problem that anyone would really run into with this bike is the majorly faulty tuning. it was put together by minimum wage walmart employees who either dont care or just dont know how to put a bike together correctly. my best advice on this bike is to either set aside a long, cool afternoon in your garage to perfect the tuning on the rig (only if you have a rather intense know-how when it comes to bikes, as it is hard to perform these tasks with just web instructions unless you can really pick things up easily) otherwise, take it down to a local bike shop (no, not walmart, they messed it up in the first place. not toys-r-us either, unless you're just truing the rims) and pay to have the entire bike be tuned, adjusted, and perfected by a bicycle savant. if you're still not entirely jolly, i would recommend replacing the questionable "Falcon" front derailleur with a shimano. and if it suits your fancy, fit the rear wheel with another disk brake (although most of the actually braking is done in the front wheel, as the rear wheel will just slide) trust me, its more than worth it. this $189 bike will be feeling like a $600+ bike in no time. oh, and be sure to peel off at least the "lightweight aluminum" sticker and affix with some more stylish.

Had to adjust the front shifter, both brakes, and tighten every screw from front to back. After two miles the stock seat had to go, replaced it with a Bell gel seat also from Wal-Mart ($20) and made a world of difference. All in all, I love this bike. My wife and I go out every weekend on some trails (nothing extreme, just a few hills, rocks, and roots)and sometimes during the week and have a blast every time. Pros: It's cheap for what you get. A good bike to build from.
Cons: Components are cheap, seat is hard, decals a bit cheezy. Assembly can be bad.
Time Used: Less Than A Month
Comments: I wanted a comfortable & sturdy commuter - so this was a great starting point. I added a gel cover to the seat, replaced the pedals with bigger ones, and put on a handlebar stem extender (to balance out the seat raised to it's hightest position). Also carefully scraped off ALL the decals, and added a carrier rack that clamps on the seat post. Last, I made some mounts and fitted on chrome cruiser fenders. It's a Boss Commuter, for <$300!! The only gripe I have is some poor assembly & tuning (which I spotted & fixed easily), and the mis-matched front disk caliper mounting. It really doesn't fit this bike -even though it's factory equiptment- and binds on the fork mounting ears so that it's crooked. To remedy: I machined the caliper's mounting ears so that they would clear the fork's ears, then re-tapped the cross-threaded holes (from being bolted on cock-eyed), and used longer bolts that went full-depth on the threads. It now works smooth, with minimal clearance! I recommend this good basic bike to anyone who has a bit of know-how and good common sense.

Pros: they made me type it in again
Cons: the rear brake shoes it comes with kinda sucks, but those are cheap to replace
Time Used: 6 Months
Comments: ive also seen alot to complaints about the bike being too low to the ground. the hight is adjustable! if you tightin or loosen the ring on the rear suspension ring. It will lower or raise the height of the bike. you should be able to turn it by hand. Just watch going too far to the edge. I keep it low because im constantly going down steep hills,so i want it low in the back. Maybe that ca take care of the pedal problem.

Pros: strong frame, nice tires, wheels, decent brakes, good suspension travel. nice shifters.
Cons: no rear disc brake, not enough travel in frount suspension, rear sus could be alittle softer.
Time Used: 6 Months
Comments: I am amazed at how many bad reviews this bike got. however, i am a mechanic and when i got this bike it needed numerous adjustments..the gears, derailer shifters ect.(cmon walmart put it together) but once the bugs were worked out, its amazing for the price. Ive beat it to death on the hardest terrain availble, flown off jumps, overlogs and through the worst terrian imaginable...aka been extremly hard on it! Pure mountain biking off road terrain. never had any problems with anything! The big tires are awsome for off road, the rims are still perfect, despite jumps rocks ect..I love the fender, it actually works! Nice metal toothed pedals and accurate trigger shifters(once tuned). Strong solid frame, nice soft rear sus. I will be changing the fork to get a bit more travel in the frount and add a disc brake in rear, but other than that this bike has gone every where my friends 1500 dollar bike goes and it does it extremly well. with those 2 mods its bulletproof. the reason maybe so many people had problems was because there wasnt enough air pressure in the tires,(?) i run about 55lbs. so that the suspension gives not the air in the tires or rims. my advice would be to know how to tune a bike before you buy it. With a little bit of care this bike can keep up or exceed the same level of a specialized or 500 dollar and above bikes.(Oh and with the disc brake mod and frount fork mod(used) $150 100mm the total price is 450, 50 bucks cheaper than the cheapest rock hopper or specialized hardtail.

Pros: looks nice, fast shifting gears, front suspension, nylon tires
Cons: seat is rock hard, disc locks up, rims are somewhat flimsy, back suspesnion is to weak, gears are not accuarte no matter what.
Time Used: 6 Months
Comments: i would reccomend this bike to people who just ride on trails and on the sidewalks. Because this bike is not made for off road (obviosuly. i would never go off anything 6inch or higer unless you want to bend your rim. But overall i think this bike will last you very long as long if you take care of it and dont go off jumps or anything rekateing to that.

Pros: UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE
Cons: UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE

Comments: My Wal-mart bike and I have been through some good and bad times over the past few weeks...Quail Hollow every other day, Vulture's Knob last week and today I tackled West Branch for the first time this year. (Rode it last year a handful of times toward the end of summer.) Started out in the section by the lake....did that whole loop then proceeded into the "CAUTION EXPERTS ONLY SECTION" on the other side of the street. Thats where the story begins really...so here I am having a great time when I start noticing a strange sound coming from my rear wheel only to realize that it is the freewheel bearings going bad and getting worse with every revolution. then about halfway into the ride on the "difficult" side of the street it happens...I go down a hill (those who ride WB will probably know this spot) and into a stream of water that you ride up for a short distance and then you climb out of the water up a pretty steep slope. not far past that I am cranking up another slope when my rear derailer breaks in half!!! Fortunately my friend and I earlier in the ride ran into 2 other guys in the trail and then the 4 of us rode together...well the good part is one guy worked for a bike shop and had a chain tool in the trail with him...and when the derailer broke completely off of my bike...he ingeniously turned my bike into a single speed and I was able to finish the ride. Big thanx to him!!! When i got back to my truck I realized that the rock section basically did my Wal-Mart bike in for good. I had no wrecks or wipeouts of any kind but just from riding today I broke: The rear derailer in half broke the chain in multiple places bent the rear axle blew out the freewheel bearings and upon returning to the truck I found 2 cracks in my frame!!! Thank God in Heaven that frame didn't break while I was on it...That could have been ugly!!! Anyhow the guys at my LBS will be happy cuz now I have good reason to come buy a "real" bike from them. However i have to give my wal-mart bike props for getting me interested in this AWESOME sport. (and also getting me back to my truck in one piece)

Pros: Nice bike for a beginner who wants to do mild trail riding. Front disc brake is nice. Quick-fire shifters are also good. Front shocks are decent
Cons: WAY TOO HEAVY! No rear disc brake, rear shock is bouncy, rims are weak (if you plan on doing any jumping), Seat is very hard, rear deraileur SUCKS and is very weak.
Time Used: 1 Year
Comments: This being my first "Mountian Bike" I bought it with the "intent" on doing mild trail riding with my wife...that is ALL that this bike can handle trust me on that. For mild trails it is a great bike...anything more it will definitely not handle. For starters the rims are very easily knocked out of alignment thus needing to be re-trued almost every time I so much as leave the ground an inch. The rear suspension is very bouncy and causes fatigue to the rider when pedaling up any sort of incline. I guess to summarize I am not downing this bike because it is this affordable bike that caused my interest in the sport of mountain biking...but if you plan on jumping, attempting obstacles, or doing any kind of racing...spend the extra $125 or so and get a Specialized Hard Rock which can handle the abuse a little more. Not a bad first bike though.

Pros: Nice shocks, good front disc brake. Really nice shimano rapid fire shifters.
Cons: too low to the ground, wish I could raise it. The derailer didn't work right at first so get it tuned up first.
Time Used: Less Than A Month
Comments: It is a really nice bike for the money. I used to have a next bike and this is a huge upgrade from it. It is a great bike for beginers. It does great over really rough terrain. Haven't jumped too much yet but it looks fairly sturdy to me. Great bike for the money

Pros: Simple shifting mechanism, front disc brake, good suspension, lightweight
Cons: too low to ground, pedals scrape when turning tight or going off curbs, seat takes some getting used to, and for God's sake get rid of that mud-guard!
Time Used: Less Than A Month
Comments: Good light bike, but I wish I could raise it off the ground a bit as the pedals scrape the ground far too often, causing several crashes already. The pedaling even in 21st gear is too easy for my preference (I like a workout), the shifting mechanism won't hit 3rd and I'm having trouble adjusting it (user error, as I didn't receive a manual). All in all a decent bike for the money, but if I had it to do again I'd get something different.

Pros: Lightweight, great chains. shifts easily. ground my gears a few times and it still has not broken. Suspension is great. adjusted the disk brakes and they worked fine.
Cons: throws you around on the sidewalk ramps. brakes lock up easily. Pedal reflectors fall off very easily.
Time Used: 6 Months
Comments: Love the bike. I locked up the brakes a few times and almost crashed, but i drifted out of it:). Great bike. Very tough. It got banged up a few times and the pedals got scraped, but no damage to the rest of the bike.

Pros: good bike nice derailers i had no problems with disc brakes you sqeeze as hard as you can and they will make a pop noise and it is worn in better faster. very cheap.
Cons: stupid mud guard remove it, it really hurts you in a race!!!!!

Pros: Very light bike, I agree, mud guard looks funny but... yes it works. i like shifters are to fast compare to another chepps ones, 5 points rear suspension very good and can be hard or soft depends what you need... so, you buy a very good bike for less than 200 bills
Cons: Disk bake doesnt work very good, front suspension to soft
Time Used: Less Than A Month
Comments: I've been ridding MTB not for so long but for me mongoose its a very good brand, actually my last bike was a DXR bike, so i am very happy with my mongoose. More because Mongoose ofers more for less money

Pros: Great looking bike. Mud guard looks dumb but it works :-) Suspension works great. Front disc works awsome. Super light weight for a $190 bike.
Cons: Mud guard. Gears don't shift right no matter how hard i tuned. So i just gave up first gear and use the rest. Works great now. Front disc also needs to be broken but that's with all disc brakes.
Time Used: Less Than A Month
Comments: Bought this just to go riding with friends. It works well for trails. Suspension can be soft at times. My first upgrade will be an adjustable fork. But for the money, you can search the internet, this can't be beat. I'd recommend it for those bikers that go out occasionally and for those weekend warriors that don't want to spend alot of money.

Comments: I just put one on layaway for my birthday. So I cant really tell you how well it rides, but as far as looks and the components I give it 4 stars! When I picked the bike up it was very light weight. I also love that it comes equiped with rapid fire shifters!
