Pros: Really love the frame, rims, manual brakes. I bought the bike in Utah and hit Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, Moab, and Breckenridge for about two weeks, then shot acroass the country back to South Jersey. The bkie was marginal out west, but thrives in the relativley flat snady loamy region of South Jersey where I do the majority of my riding. I've been riding it for 6 months and the only broken part has been the rear derailler hanger.
Cons: I really hated the Deore rear derailler. When I snapped the rear hanger I upgraded the entire shifters & rear derailler to SRAM X7. WOW!
Time Used: 6 Months
Comments: Specialized makes an excellant bike of coures. The Rockhopper is still a hardtail and came up short out west. A perfect bike for South Jersey and training. Just get rid of that rear derailer.

Pros: Great set up for the price. Brakes are amazing (Avid BB5) and the fork (Dart 3) is suprisingly nice and sturdy. lockout feature is useful. frame (M4) is very light.
Cons: non really. the tires are not nobby enough for the terrain i ride in but its not like the can not be changed.
Time Used: Less Than A Month
Comments: I got this bike as christmas gift. I have been riding rockhoppers for about 5 years now and i really like them. you can not beat them for the price and they are easily upgradable. they have the same frame material and almost the same geometry as a stumpy but cost half as much. I was worried about how the fork would perform but found it to be suprising nimble and it has many feartures. the disc brakes provide so much stopping power. the tires are not what i personally like but that can be changed so easily.

Pros: Sturdy and light. Great bike for beginner to intermediate riders. Leaves plenty of room for component enhancements.
Cons: Saddle is rock solid to start, but it will break in with time. Not much to complain about.
Time Used: 3 Months
Comments: I'm a 6'6" rider who thrives off speed. I got the 23" frame from the local shop and I've been riding hard every weekend since. This bike held up in a thunderstorm and rainstorm from hell. A quick cleaning and some minor adjustments at the shop and this bike was sounding like I just bought it. The geometry provides for a comfortable ride, even for a big guy and I don't have to worry about pushing this bike too hard because it can handle just about anything. I've hit some huge roots and rocks and the rims are fine, disc brakes are a must!
