Here's a great solution to a thorny issue. Tightly woven KevlarŪ stops thorns, glass, sharp rocks, and it spreads the load of pinching forces to increase resistance to snake bites.

Pros:
Very light weight, works very well when installed correctly.
Cons:
Difficult to seat just right when installing, if you get it wrong, you're susceptible to pinch flats.

Pros:
Able to roll over just about anything, short of machetes and a circus bed of nails. Weight not even a factor.
Cons:
Tend to crack if not installed properly.
Price, but it's worth it. Doesn't do anything for pinch flats, but that's attributed to "pilot error".

Comments:
I used to work in bike shops. I wanted to know how much these things which seemed nothing more than a roll of cash register paper could handle. So I tried to staple them in your standard Swingline stapler. When I say I tried, it was because I couldn't, the staple did not puncture the material. Pretty impressive. The pair in my mountain bike are nearly five years old. No flats. I mostly ride on city streets.
