Average Rating:

Take your ride from Rocky Road to Vanilla smoothie with the new XCR. With a 15% increase in travel and a new Alien seat clamp for easy adjustability it's the post to own. The combination of a shorter seal cap and simplified seat clamp provide a smooth, deep stroke that lets you stay seated and pedal through bigger hits. Three-piece MCU and coil spring stack, aluminum post, simplified clamp adjustment. Specify shims to fit 26.0, 26.2, 26.4, 26.6, 26.8, 27.0, 27.2, 28.6, 29.2, 29.4, 29.8, 30.2, 30.4, 30.8, 30.9, 31.mm.

Pros: Light for a suspension seatpost. Great behavior on light to moderate trails. Adjustable preload very nice, allows for customizing suspension to conditions.
Cons: The head bolt adjustment. Came loose many times before I put some Loctite on it. End of problem.
Time Used: 1 Year
Comments: I ride a hard tail with a 100 mm front suspension, aluminum frame and 1.9 inch small knobbed tires. I ride from flat fast trails, to swirling single track, to rocky trails. Not into extreme riding. Sometimes i use my mtb on roads. This seatpost has given me the necessary suspension on the tail to be able to spare the cost of a full suspension and still enjoy hardtail characteristics. Took several tries to finally have the head tight enough so it wouldn't slide under my weight on bumpy sections. The Loctite works wonders with the provided screw, it just stays.

Pros: good shock mechanism
Cons: second alien xcr, first one broke the bolts holding the seat, the second one head bolts do not tighten enough and head is now not holding seat.
Time Used: More than 2 years
Comments: good shock, sucky seat bolt + head design. i do not recommend this product if you ride alot. too bad i can't give it a good review.

Pros: Good suspension providing comfortable ride.
Cons: The 2.5mm Allen key bolts are very difficult to tighten up sufficiently to hold the seat well. It took 12000km, 2 sets of bolts for me to finally get a pair of 10mm nuts welded on the end so I could use a descent spanner on them - problem solved!
Time Used: 1 Year
Comments: We have used this on the rear of a tandem to prevent the sore bottom of the stoker who cannot see the potholes.

Pros: very smooth compression - no sticky spots that require heavy impact to bypass. Inshort I find it really smooths out the long ride
Cons: At times it can be a little bouncy - once you're used to it you can power thru the bounce and take advantage of the absorbsion
Time Used: More than 2 years
Comments: I've had 3 of these over the last 4 years. Great compliment to my hard tail. I ridden some sweet full suspension rides and this post won't make your hard tail a fully but it can make your hard tail that much sweeter while still maintaining the drive train power that a hard tail offers. I'm a big guy and ride hard - I've broken the top I-beam 2wice...once under warentee once I was willing to buy yet another. Satisfied ? definitely
