Sam, sorry you had such an unfavorable experience, especially considering the money you spent. Either you got an incredibly cheap knock-off, or you're not an experienced rider. Tinker loves his Scalpel Team. I got mine and after 50 training miles, race it to a first place overall, along w/setting a new course record in Sport class @ the Shasta Lemurian (a true mt. mtb race!). Second race on bike: 2nd place overall in 12 hour race. Third race: 1st overall, Sport class, beating two guys from a local racing team who've raced the course 10 times each; this was my first time on the course ever. And the bike is still running like new! XTR shifters are crisp and clear. XTR brakes dial in w/no rub and have Xllnt brkng. power. Shocks are the best in any class. Even the 1.75" (Narrow!) Hutch. Scorpion Team Ed. USTs rail like crazy w/this bike. It's Very expensive, but if you're into mtb. racing and think you have a chance @ the podium, get this bike and take the prize!

Pros:
The bike is very lightweight
Cons:
The lefty fork is not stable in left turns on the downhill. It's an eye-catching design, too bad it doesn't work as well as forks that have two legs. It is totally unbalanced and leaves the rider with an awkward feel. The remote lockout for the rear shock locks out the shock when you hit the bumps, which defeats the purpose of having a shock. I have never been able to get the shifting to work right, and neither has any of the dealers I've taken it to (2 Cannondale dealers). Very weak frame; I ride cross country, I don't do jumps, I weigh 160, and I now need a new frame because this one seems to be off by about 5 mm or so, causing the rear wheel to rub against the chainstays.

Customer service at Cannondale is like dealing with an insurance adjuster from a cheesy insurance company.
