Pros: Stiff good frame with great geometry (that''s the bike right there), components/brakes work well enough, versatile gearing.
Cons: Abysmal front shocks, handlebar bends with a road fall, components needs constant retuning every 100 miles.
Time Used: More than 2 years
Comments: 2000 year M50 barely used until 2010. Running original component group with exception of new stiffer seat and Salsa Cromoto rigid fork, spd pedals/shoes and 100psi touring slicks. Used for road riding/touring and as a commuter. Logged 1300 miles since early summer 2010. 2 century rides. What can I say - a good machine. Takes panniers well and the abuses of bus racks and ferry rides. Once I get a full-on road bike, this will be my bad weather bike.

Pros: Cheap! Responsive frame, doesn't look burly but trust me she can handle anything you throw at her.
Cons: Fork, rims, and pretty much the whole component package
Time Used: More than 2 years
Comments: I picked mine up for $300 four years ago. I've upgraded mine to an Shimano XT group, Marzzochi Marathon fork, and Mavic Rims. The way it's set up has lasted all three years like that, and she has won X-C Races. on't let anybody tell you a cheap bike isn't worth it.
