Avid Mechanical Disc Brake
Number of Reviews:   7
Average Rating:

Mechanical brakes are fully on par with hydralics and Avid makes the best. Mechanical means no lines to bleed. The Caliper Positioning System simplifies pad centering and guarantees optimal stopping power.

Pros: Ease of setup, modulation, power, no need to bleed...ever, simple pad replacement
Cons: I'm at a loss...oh wait, there's no messy brake fluid to get everywhere.
Time Used: More than 2 years
Comments: I put my first pair on my xc hardtail, and then last year put another set with 185mm rotors on a freeride/trailbike. This spring I replaced the hydraulic Gustav's (they had seen better days)on my DH race bike with a set of 203mm Avids, and so far no complaints. To put it simply, these brakes work.

Pros: As a mechanic, I have seen alot of discs come in. the one that holds up the best, and performs the best is definatly the Avid Mech.
Cons: as with any conversion to disc, you have to buy new hubs, and to get a good, light on, you can run into lack of $
Time Used: 3 Months
Comments: definatly your best bet for any disc break setup.

Pros: My god these rock. Great modulation, great power, and great price
Cons: Can be a bit tricky to adjust where they don't rub.
Time Used: 1 Year
Comments: Simply the best upgrade you can make. If you have tons of cash, go for some Hayes hydraulics but otherwise get these.
