Pros: nice color, comfortable, great value, decent warranty
Cons: needs work before riding, thorough check and tuning a must, group set too slow
Time Used: 1 Year
Comments: i use this bike as a daily driver and it is great on the road. it''s a little heavy and doesn''t give much pedal resistance after 30 mph on a downhill but it''s tough enough to handle a half century and still ride easily. my main problem is the group set. it could certainly allow for more speed. but overall it''s a great trainer / commuter.

Cons: cheaply made- non-replacable parts

Comments: I have had bike less than three months and have had two replacment bikes so far from Wal-mart. Bikes keeps falling apart. Please do not buy this bike but if you do get the two year insurance! C.Y.A

Pros: You can ride it.
Cons: Very , very cheap parts and manufacturing. Walmart and Mongoose are not a good mix.
Time Used: 3 Months
Comments: If you plan on riding aggressively or mtb for real. do not, I repeat do not buy this pos. Kids on here will defend this bike into the ground. Mine is almost dead, it has been less than two months. Caution with this one, not worth it. Look on craig''s list or pawn shops!

Cons: To many chicks keep coming up to me asking questions about my cool bike!

Comments: Nice bike for the price! Bought it from a scrapper for $5.00 right out of the back of his pick up truck. A week later I entered it in a around the world race and came in second! I think i came in second because i kept getting stopped by hotties wanting a ride. rockhauler114 at yahoo dot com

Pros: Awesome bike! Works great, good front travel
Cons: None, except the tires went bald after a bit
Time Used: 3 Months
Comments: I found this bike sitting on the curb ready to be thrown out, but the only thing that was wrong with it was the chain was stuck... I pulled out the chain with a bit of muscle and now i ride it through the woods as if it were a muddin truck. i have taken it through big mud holes, potholes about 2 feet deep and accross, and the darn thing hasn''t broke yet. it also has more travel in the front suspension then my uncles raleigh...

Pros: Good suspension, decent speed, good looks and great price.
Cons: Parts are prone to loosening. Gear shifts are temperamental, easy to slip chain. Frame seems too small for 26".
Time Used: More than 2 years
Comments: If you can live with checking for loose parts after every ride, uncomfortable seat and careful shifting this is your bike. You get what you pay. For frugal hounds.

Cons: uncomfortable seat, cheap gears/axle

Comments: I''m 6'' 190, bought it to ride with my kids. Had it not even a year and thought that under torque, the chain slipped....realized the gears are shelled. Took it apart and the rear axle is bend too. Junk bike. Would not buy again. You get what you pay for.

Pros: Price $135, good looking bike, lightweight, brakes work well, sturdy frame, fun to ride.
Cons: Seat is very uncomfortabe, rear hub sounds like the bearings aren''t going to last but we''ll see, front suspension is not good, grips feel cheap.
Time Used: Less Than A Month
Comments: Cheaply made obviously, it''s a chinese walmart bike, but I didn''t buy the bike to go offroad riding or jump it off mountains... I bought it to get some exercise in smooth residential neighborhoods. For that it has been great so far!

Pros: price, color, components, weight
Cons: none so far Definately not a High end bike like GT, Specialized, or Trek to name a few I have either owned or riden
Time Used: Less Than A Month
Comments: Being an avid MTBer and that i am used to repairing and maintaining my own bike this was a no brainer. Shimano components are great even the low end models. Most bike shops in my area will tune up a bike for about 35 dollars. From what I can see out of the box this is all it needs. I made sure that all the components were functioning normally and set up for my son. As for weight it is almost 10 lbs lighter then his 20" Next BMX bike we replaced. From what I read and from the feel it is about 36 to 38 lbs. That weight for the price is awesome. I have seen bikes at other stores for more money with lower grade components and weight into the 40 to 50 lbs range. Obviously it is not a high end bike but for a starter bike you can not beat the price.

Pros: The only pro about this bike is its cheap. Almost disposable. That is why i bought it, for a two month trip. I hope it lasts that long.
Cons: Assembled by walmart employes. All the parts on this bike are poor quality. Grip shifters always break. Front derailure is the worst part of the bike. The crank set is awful. The handle bars have an akward ange to them.
Time Used: Less Than A Month
Comments: This bike would be ok for an early teen. If you are serious about mnt. Biking do not buy this bike, or anything that walmart, target, costco, any other department store sells. If you are on a budget buy a used bike from craigslist or ebay, some bike shops sell used bikes. Do your research and buy a bike from a reputable cmpany. Raleigh, Giant, Trek are some good examples. Yes they are a lot higher in price but you get what u pay for.

Pros: I looks like a nice bike, and I am glad the bike was a gift.
Cons: Because it was a gift, it didn''t come with a owners manual. You can''t find one on line to help with repairs, and they seem to be common with this bike.

Comments: Unlike those who''s reports I have read that use the English like dirt. I too, will not recommend this bike to dirt riders. This bike is questionable for the road at best, and not used for off road.

Pros: nice frame, great brakes, great gear-set with some re-adjustment after purchase, and suspension is sooooo easy to adjust
Cons: seat is terrible, and my grips slide and break, replacement of these are necessary. and wheels should be either upgraded, or striaghtened with a spoke adjuster, thanks to walmarts quality i had terribly wavy wheels.
Time Used: 3 Months
Comments: Great bike overall, couldve been alot better if it was built by people who KNOW how to build a bike. and for everyone that complains about this bike, you paid a little over $100 for it, and you obviously dont know how to adjust anything yourself. overall great bike

Pros: Great suspension, good looks, economical price
Cons: Bad seat too small and no cushion, no pre drilled holes for accesories (water bottle, etc.)
Time Used: 6 Months
Comments: Good bike for a beginning mountain biker wanting to test the possibility of new hobby.Seat is horrible and should be replaced immediatly if you plan on riding for a while. Probably not a good choice for hardcore trails, but works great for Park Trails, or Rails to Trails type settings. But if you are not sure how dedicated you will be to, oir how much you will enjoy mountain biking, for $ 120.00 you wouldn''t be out of much money to discover how great it is, and once you do, you will want to improve your equipment.

Pros: Very durable frame. Great suspension. Pretty customizable*.
Cons: Very heavy. Could use some drink holder screws. Not the best oem parts. Some parts a not so easy to adjust
Time Used: 6 Months
Comments: I''ve had this bike since Dec 2010. I''m 34, 210. I''ve been riding it almost 5 times a week to/from work for 3 months in the rain and heat and a few times on dirt trails. It has held up like a tank. I have had to replace the chain, a tube and back break pads. Pretty normal for the wear. I expected to have to replace the pedals. But, they''ve held up. The wires are all still origional. With some lube and cleaning, it''s done great! The front wheele didn''t come with a quick release lever and the handle bars aren''t very easy to raise/lower. Not sure if these are really cons, as I don''t change them much. I was able to use some of the mounting holes on the frame near the back wheele to mount a bottle holder and there''s enough space under the seat for a bike trunk. It''s not for everybody. But, I sure knock it.

Pros: My son loves the look and color
Cons: Very fragile
Time Used: 6 Months
Comments: My son received this bike for Christmas. We live in Minnesota so he''s only used it for about 5 months. There was something weird with the gears/rear wheel that I couldn''t fix, plus the front brake barely works and the kickstand is extremely loose already. We brought it in to a bike shop. When they looked at it they called and asked if we really wanted to fix it. They said the bearings in the rear wheel hub basically have "disintegrated". It would cost $110 to fix a $120 bike. Can''t believe the quality is so poor. My son is only 70 lbs so it''s not like there was a ton of stress on it. Bummer cause he loved the bike.

Cons: cant take very hard riding you can go pretty hard on it but not as much as you might like
Time Used: 6 Months
Comments: very good bike for the price but not quite as durable and tough as i would have liked I jumped a 9 ft drop into a flat but not too hard landing and screwed up the handlebars and bent the forks. I really wish the bike had more suspension travel in the front.also it didnt take long to where i had to tighten the brakes wish they were better but the bike did take a lot of hard riding from me and for $120 how much can you expect?

Cons: brakes can be hard to control at times, not good if you dont use the gear shifter.
Time Used: More than 2 years
Comments: i really like the bike had it for 3 years only had a problem when the handle bars stick broke but easy quick fix real fast some models are better but the xr 75 is really great if you know what you are doing always got to use the gear shifter or start of the ride won''t b good and chain mess up the chain.

Pros: great shocks, brakes work great, mostly easily adjustable, looks great, fast and extremely affordable, an absolutely great bike for only $120
Cons: the stock seat is EXTREMELY uncomfortable, walmart assemblers indeed did a horrible job tightening and assuring that its safe, s-arm needed adjusting
Time Used: 6 Months
Comments: i was very very leery about purchasing this bike but after reading reviews on many sites, i came to the conclusion that it was just typical walmart shotty assembly. i followed the DIRECTIONS that the MANUFACTURER PROVIDED IN THE MANUAL and since i bought it pre-assembled, i went through the check-list that they provided and tightened every screw and bolt on the bike. it didnt give me a single problem after that. let me be clear, any problems anyone has had with this bike has been because of poor assembly and maintenance. an all-over great bike for only $120 dollars. a great value.

Pros: Speedy, Good looking, cheap, easy to repair
Cons: Gears sometimes slip, Brakes like to loosen up fast, suspension is ok...
Time Used: More than 2 years
Comments: My parents bought me this bike a couple years ago, when they bought it, the handlebars liked to slip (thank you wal-mart) but that was no problem fixing. After a day of moderate riding, the brakes won''t stop you, so if you go riding, bring the proper tools to fix that. The most problems i''ve had were the brakes and gears, if you are going wicked fast, then you try to shift down to a low gear (i.e. to climb a steep hill) the chain sometimes slips. The suspension isn''t very soft, I have mine loosened all the way (i like the soft ride ^_^) the fork suspension required lube as soon as i got it. Other than that, this bike is great.

I was riding and the front wheel jammed while turning. I flipped right over and busted the brakes. The seat is hard and the handelbars come out of place. Pros: Great looks, speeds, great climbing ability, comfortable suspension,
Cons: Funny gear ratios
Time Used: Less Than A Month
Comments: I bought this bike to go mountain biking with a friend in the Arizona desert, but so far have only ridden it a few times. But so far it''s incredible. In it''s two lowest gears, the pedaling is so light you can very casually pedal your way up a steep hill other riders would walk up. But in it''s highest gears, it''ll just fly (I smoked a bike twice as expensive as mine like a cheap cigar). The suspension absorbs pretty much every bump you hit, and the shifting is responsive. My only complaints are that the chain slips occasionally, (but that can be adjusted) and the brakes will not work when wet (but NO rim brakes will work work wet). Other than that the gear ratios are set up to where if you''re just cruising along in the city, it''s hard to find a comfortable gear. Like you''re pedalling to fast, then you shift and you''re pedalling too hard. But it''s a mountin bike so it wasn''t built for cruising anyway. Lol. This bike was probably a better investment than my car. I absolutely love it

Pros: suspension, looks, gears
Cons: seat, small tires
Time Used: 3 Months
Comments: I''ve only had the bike about two months, but i have put over 400 miles on it. most of the time I pull a bike trailer with my 4 year old twin girls in it. I don''t ride down the street, we ride the Creeper Trail in SW Virginia. It is all gravel, rock and dirt. This bike is great. I have replaced the seat with a memory foam, added handlebar ends, upgraded to trigger shifters and added a rear rack that attaches to seat post. I want to put bigger tires on but not sure how big I can go. Great brakes when adjusted properly, I can slide back tire easily. Love it try one!!!

Pros: The price, it''s cheap.
Cons: It''s cheap ;P
Time Used: 3 Months
Comments: Got it at Walmart, they don''t check it when you buy it so make sure you tighten down all the bolts, lugs, nuts. Best take it to a bike shop and have them check it out (~$35USD). I agree with most other reviews here: The brakes need to be adjusted (!), as do the gears. Yes, the saddle is a butt hurter. The handle bars will need to be tightened or else they will come loose after a short while, not good while you are riding it. Bottomline, if you are looking for a cheap bike to get you from a to b, this will do you just fine. If you are a more ambitious biker, get something else. By the time you spend the money on upgrades, adjustments etc, you are close to the @00-300 range anyhow.

Comments: This is a great bike but I reccomend upgrading the brakes to something better especially for riding down hill (it will not stop). If you ride it alot get a better seat. Target has a good selection. With this bike you will have a good time riding. It is good for trails and small jumps. Oh and I rcomend screwing the handlebars down, they like to move around. Pros: Good entry-level, light terrain bike, reasonable price
Cons: Stock seat is hard, but expected
Time Used: Less Than A Month
Comments: Got it pre-assembled at WM, checked it over, snugged things up, deflated both tires and straightened the valve stems since they were angled (other reviewers said theirs blew out here, might be why). Adjustable rear suspension is a plus. Gears weren’t perfect but a $20 adjustment at a bike shop took care of that. Typical ride is 4-6 miles of road and light trails and have had no issues with it and look forward to taking it on longer trails. It’s got about 40 miles on it now. Have no plans to do any "serious" trail riding, jumping, BMX, etc. so for my needs it’s well worth the $100. I don’t think it’s all that heavy and the frame is solid. Very pleased with the price / performance and without trying to sound negative, you get what you pay for so if you’re realistic about your expectations, it may be a really good bike for you.

Pros: looks cool, has the potential to be a great bike if you don''t buy it from Walmart
Cons: bad brakes, bad rims, doesn''t like shifting
Time Used: Just Once
Comments: I know some people like this bike. My awful experience was primarily the fault of Walmart, and not the manufacturer. After riding it for about a half a mile, the brakes basically gave out. When I tried to shift, the chain would pop out. It was riding rough, and that’s when my friend followed behind me and pointed out that my wheels were wobbling a lot. Turns out the rims were bent up pretty bad. I took it back to Walmart where they told me they don’t take bikes back at all. After convincing them to an exchange after a lot of arguing, I discovered that everything in the bike aisle had bent rims. I talked to the guy who assembles their bikes, and he told me everything they have been getting in lately had bent rims and a lot of other problems. At this point I called the product service line, and they told me that customer service had to take my bike back since it was defective. The lady I was on the phone with told me that she would report the store if they didn’t take it back. All of a sudden customer service had no problem taking back the bike that they knew was broke before they sold it to me. If you are looking at this bike, definitely don’t purchase it from Walmart.

Comments: Alot of complaining on here. I''ve had this bike for less then a month, but when I got it home I checked it to make sure it was put together correctly as EVERYBODY should (Especialy the guy sueing). My first ride, I went 18 miles and the only thing I had to replace was the seat (Stopped at a local bike shop and replaced during my ride). The bike shifted fine, brakes worked really well and the suspension worked greak. People have to remember that this bike is assembled by someone who makes minimume wage at a retail store. The bike it self is a pretty good Mongoose especially for the price.

I have had it for nearly 4 years and the only thing I have had to replace is the seat (hurts your butt) and today the pedal broke, but after 4 years, I can''t complain. I keep it garaged so it is not exposed and maybe that makes a difference. It still looks brand new and I ride it nearly every day.

Comments: Not a bad bike, used it for a year and glad I bought it. I wasn''t sure how often I would use it, but got into mountain biking as an alternative to road cycling. I recently upgraded to a Diamondback Sorrento. The Mongoose has worked just fine, with no major problems. For the price it''s a good bike. Just don''t do anything extreme with it. Use it for what it''s made for, which is light to moderate cross country riding.

Pros: You can attack a water bottle cradle to the frame. This comes in handy when you get thirsty after pushing your bike back home or to your car.
Cons: The brakes are horrible. It''s impossible to get them to work correctly more than once. Contant tweaking required to make the bike functional. The seat is horrible and needs to be replaced immediately.
Time Used: 1 Year
Comments: This is a cheap bike. The brakes will ''stick'' constantly making it impossible to coast since the pads are always rubbing the rim. The seat is too skinny to be functional outside of an S&M show. The transmission slips frequently making it difficult to paddle without having an omninous feeling that you''re about to break a leg. Just not a good bike at all, no matter how inexpensive it is. Spend an extra $50 and get a bike you can actually ride.

Pros: great price, good looks, shimano and sram components
Cons: handle bars were loose but that not because of the guy at wal-mart that assembled it (read on). you will have to make a few adjustments before riding for the first time. no quick release front wheel, makes it hard to put the bike in a car trunk
Time Used: Less Than A Month
Comments: the handle bars are loose because of a manufacturing flaw of the bolt (not smooth) and wedge. to fix it just unbolt the top bolt (not completely) enough so you can wiggle the handle bars completely off the fork. then take the wedge attached to the bottom off and spray a tiny bit of lubricant on the inside and wipe the outside clean. then bolt it back on a little bit and put the whole thing back onto the fork and tighten it. after i did that to mine, it didn''t spin around without the wheel moving with it. you also might want to check everything and make adjustments at least once a week to keep everything running like it should.

Time Used: Less Than A Month
Comments: i think when mongoose saw these problems they fixed it. i have the aluminum pedals never wrecked yet tubes never blown yet stem locks on to bars now gears are better never got stuck i actually did not like the rim brakes and make my rim be all messed up so replaced a back wheel to disk brake. after a month or so i did not like shifting so i changed and tuned the whole bike into a one speed bike. made my own experiment and ask for a stainless titanium chain because i go mudding and never gets rusted. cost the chain 50 or so. i had extra money bought a new seat because i come home with a seat up my ass. more money still and bought a FOX fork. new grips also. I also go to the skatepark by my house with it and do some nice tricks. i ride no front because i flipped once and yea.i run a 22t sprocket in front and a 8t in back. got new bars for it. complicated to put on but i worked. it runs like a beast now if you like stock items. get this bike. mudding and trail, bring a pump tubes and a wrench. street dont get it. skateparks and freestyle(me) need a lot of shit. cost me over 900$ but worth it.

The handlebars wouldn''t tighten up no matter how hard they are screwed on but another washer solved that problem. The shifting was a little clumsy at first but broke in quickly. Pros: Decent bike for the price, Shimano and Sram components.
Cons: Low end bike, not top of the line.
Time Used: 3 Months
Comments: Remember that it''s a $100 - $120 wal mart bike, not a Trek or Specialized, etc. It''s not a bad bike at all, and for such a low price, you can''t beat it. Remember, it''s not the top of the line, just like not every car is top of the line. But it does what it is meant to do, and that is to go off road on moderate trails and dirt roads - it''s not meant for jumps, or BMX, or even speed for that matter. Just as an offroad vehicle is not made for speed, neither is the Mongoose XR-75. If those who are interested in this bike primarily want speed, consider a road bike, urban bike, or hybrid. I bought this bike as an occasional alternative to my road bike (Trek 1000). Having owned a road bike for several years, I know a few things about bikes. I was skeptical at first, but then realized the most I could lose is the cheap cost of the bike! So I tried it out. I''ve been very satisfied with it, and it''s held up with no problems, except for a couple of flats caused by thorns. Slime tubes seem to do the trick. Wal Mart, and other dept stors do in fact have some poor quality bikes, so use your judgement. I was sold on the fact that it feels decently durable, and also the Shimano and Sram components, as well as what I assume to be aluminum pedals (not plastic). The brakes are cheap, and a couple gears slip. Easy fixes with an adjustment. This bike will likely not last as long as a Trek, or Specialized, but for $100 it''s worth it. But hey, it''s made in China as is Trek and probably Specialized too. For my purposes of riding on moderate trails and dirt roads, I''m very happy with it.

Pros: It''s a good bike if you just wanna ride aroundjust go places and have fun great turning if you have some balance but not for the trails or somewhere public
Cons: The brakes are horrible and cant stop fast enough or they usually break after a month by striping the threads or just breaking wires and tires pop very easy

Pros: Cheap ($120 bucks) cool looking paint
Cons: Needs a lot of adjustments before you ride, and constant maintanance. Seat hurts, sometimes the brakes make a loud funny noise like a duck, gears shift on their own, and the peddles have broken off on me...twice.
Time Used: 3 Months
Comments: If you really want to get this bike make sure you spin the wheels at the store, make sure the gears shift smooth before you buy it, and don''t get one that''s obviously been put together by Bob the store clutz. You''ll have to replace parts on this bike often, everyting is made cheap, and most likely wasn''t assembled well after it got to the store. The silver/red bike usually comes with metal peddles, get that bike. Not any of the others with plastic peddles. DO NOT GET THIS BIKE IF YOU CAN''T USE A WRENCH AND FIX THE LITTLE THINGS ON YOUR OWN.

Pros: Had terrible everything. nothing good about the bike it flat out sucked for it''s price
Cons: It was terrible
Time Used: 1 Year
Comments: Worst bike I ever owned and ever will own. Bike rims bent in less than 2 months, cheap crap plastic pedals kept breaking with in a week of it''s purchase. Brought to a bike shop a week ago and they said it would cost cheaper to buy a new bike than to fix the piece of crap bike. I once got a 70 dollar bike that lasted me 2 1/2 years before it had problems (Next Flatspin) the XR-75 was 100 dollars.

Comments: bought this bike from walmart and put about 40 miles on it in my first week...breaks need adjustment after every ride and chain will fall off within your first two rides...changed the seat after reading reviews but when it comes down to it, all of you''re energy will be used in the peddle bob...i just started biking and i know this is a horrible bike...returning it tomorrow, replacing it with a used bike from craigslist...may go to goodwill first

Pros: Solid frame, good gear changing, durable wheels seat comfortable after getting used to it.
Cons: Wiggle handlebars when you purchase item, lots of adjustments needed after purchasing, can''t do too much off-roading.
Time Used: 1 Year
Comments: Concerning all the cons, it was all after just purchasing the bike, overall if you''re just cruising down a trail, or doing some light off-roading that''s what the bike is for. And after riding my first set of 30 miles in the bike my butt was sore; although that said after a few more times the bike was just fine. I think that I got an excellent bike though because I took a major spill on it and the bike was still able to be ridden easily. After a few adjustments, putting some good Bontrager offroad tires, and putting a new bolt to hold the steering column in place the bike is perfect, aside from making adjustments to the brakes every so often to account for the wear and tear. For the money, this is a good bike, as long as you don''t mind making some upgrades and adjustments every so often.

Comments: Overall this bike is a great value. One piece of advice I have for anyone buying a bike from a large retail store is to be ready to make adjustments to the bike before riding the first time as well as after several rides. Like the guy before me said, they are not hard at all and the directions that come with it are great. You will not be dissatisfied with this bike if you are a novice that does moderate trail and road biking. Remember that this bike is more for recreational riding...not hardcore trail or MTB.

Cons: None that I have found.

Comments: I agree with REGGIE. For 100 dollars, I don''t think you can get a better bike. It looks great and performs great after you modify it somewhat. If you have any mechanical ability at all. You can fix anything that goes wrong with it. It''s just a bike, not a car. From what reviews I''ve red, get a gel seat cover, and metal pedals. Tighten everything up. Done. I do plan on beating the crap out of this bike. So I''m sure I''m going to be working on it soon.

Cons: I had to adjust everything on the bike from the brakes all the way up to the handle bars, do not ride this bike 6 miles the first day you buy it because everything will go wrong. Tighten everything up before you ride it. An yes the seat like everyone has said is the worst thing about this bike! I changed it the second day i had it because i couldn''t ride it no more it was that bad!

Comments: This is a all right bike for riding around town after you fix everything on it its not to bad. I wish i new what needed to be done to this pos before i rode it the first time. one thing is for sure if you brake the frame on it you are one bad mofo because that damn thing is the only good thing on this bike. Oh has anyone had to tighten up the rear bearings on the rim? They seem to be loose on my bike, i didn''t know if its suppose to be like that or not. But if your on a budget don''t buy this bike because its not gonna hold together, i know its cheap but trust me cheap is what you get out of this bike, you will have to dump some coin into this thing to make it a comfortable rider.

Comments: I''ve had this bike almost a year and in that time we''ve had to replace the back rim, pedals and the brake cables. You can maybe bunny hop this bike 3 inches if you''re a strong rider, the frame is so heavy. Doing drops higher than 2 ft the back feels like its going to fall apart, but it handles very well in technical ascents/decents as long as theres no big drops. Don''t ever even try to jump this bike. Bottom line is: Buy this bike if you''re a beginner and have no interest in jumping or some of the more difficult trails and be prepared to work on it, a lot.

I needed to adjust the brakes because it wasn''t tight enough. if you ride for more than 20 minutes the seat will leave you without a**.. is hard as concrete. when you are changing gears makes a lot of noise and it could take 5 to 10 seconds to change gears. in my last trip to the po office the left pedal started getting loose and crossing the street the pedal broke. I almost got hit by a car. when I checked the pedal it was cross stripped. wal-mart did the assembly.. now i need to invest between 30 to 50 dollars to get a better seat, new pedals and a new tube seat because the one that came with the bike is too short for me.

Comments: My dad actually bought this bike a few years ago, but I didn't learn how to ride the bike until last month. I wanted to use it as a way of exercising throughout the whole summer. However, first the pedals came off while I was riding one day. I had to have them both screwed in with a wrench. The gear-shifting system then just stopped working after the bike accidentally hit a wall(not very hard). Finally, the pedals started cracking apart, and now I can't ride it. I'm forced to buy a new bike now. There might even be a lengthy delay before I can get consistent leg exercise again. I want a break from the running I do enough of during the school year...

Some one at Walmart had found a defect in it and cross striped the screw so the bike peadals were no good. If you ask mee get a xr-200 or an xr-250 it will save you a headache or two.

Pros: Cheap, Looks good
Cons: Wal-Mart assembly, shoddy parts, gears
Time Used: Less Than A Month
Comments: I rode this bike maybe 4 or 5 times to and from class before the pedal cracked and broke apart. I only weigh 150lbs. I went and bought some replacement pedals (big mistake, should have waited) and am completely unable to get the pedal off now. Wal-Mart must have used loctite because I have tried everything short of a blow torch. There's a reason bikes at pro-shops are more expensive, and the above explains it all. I will be taking my XR75 to a shop tomorrow so I can quit using my Chevrolegs to get to my summer classes.

Pros: Cheap, nice looking and oh yeah did I say cheap!!!
Cons: Seat, front shocks are a bit spongy, assembled at Wall Mart. I wish i didnt have to work on it right after i bought it. dont trust walmarts assembly!!! tune it yourself. read the manual. good info
Time Used: Less Than A Month
Comments: I bought this thing last night at wally world thinking i would save some dough ridding it to work, well took it home and the gears were all off. so, i spent most of the night fixing them, very easy to do. make sure you align the back ones first then the front ones. follow the instructions on how to adjust, simple. u wanna unbolt the wire from the derailer, then put the handle on 7 for the back, then align with the "high" screw on the side until the closest derailer arm cog lines up with the chain cog. then pull tension tight on wire and bolt it down. but make sure your front chain is on 1, then unbolt its wire and then adjust the screw until the chain is in the middle of the front derailer, then tight the wire back down. should work like a dream. its the screw closest to the bike, then if it wont go into 3 gear, adjust the outside screw. worked for me, now its the best bike ive ever owned. it was cheap too.

Pros: It's red. Other than that- none.
Cons: The seat, brakes, and handlebars
Time Used: Less Than A Month
Comments: My son bought this bike for $100 at Wal-Mart. I had to take it back b/c the brakes were not hooked up right. They would not let us trade it out. The handlebars were also loose. They tightened them. They came loose when my son rode it. I bought a special tool to tighten them b/c Wal-Mart would -again- not take the bike back. They came loose again. Wal-Mart employee said there was no recall when I went in to check but said it sounded like the handlebars were not gripping. Really? Hmm.... She told us to tighten them. We did-again. He wrecked today and was almost run over by a car. The handlebars had come so loose this time they slid over to one side and he just could not control the bike. I believe he should get a refund, but Wal-Mart believes otherwise. They could just send it back to Mongoose. My little boy is out a lot more than they would be. I'm not sure who to be more upset with- the store or the company. And below I had to give it one star as this forum does not allow the rating to be left blank. But I give it Zero Stars!

Pros: Strong and good looking frame, low price, and has been a great bike for me to get around with, even during North Dakota winters.
Cons: Don't trust a store assembly! Make sure you tighten and align everything yourself. Gearing is a pain to get adjusted correctly. The seat is horrible, make sure you gets something else that is more comfortable.
Time Used: More than 2 years
Comments: I picked this bike up after my car finally gave up the ghost. The gas prices were starting to go up, I really didn't need another car, so I decided to go with this bike. The price was great, and after I fixed the store assembly problems it worked perfectly for me. The derailers are a pain to adjust, but once you get it shifting is super-smooth. Unfortunately, a couple weeks back I was clipped by a car who's driver was too busy talking on his cellphone to notice me. Fortunately, I was not hurt at all, and the only damage to the bike was the rear wheel was twisted (several spokes were sheered off at the hub.) So I need to get a new rear wheel so that I can get going again. Overall I've enjoyed this bike and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a general purpose mountain bike for getting around with. But I will admit it definitely isn't what you want if you are looking for a true offroad rig.

Pros: Cheap,durable
Cons: Sucks if your over 5 feet tall, seat sucks and the handle bars suck, be prepared to put 50 bucks into it for a new seat and post if your tall. and if your local walmart is like the one by me than you know the guy how puts these bikes together sucks and dosnt now what hes doing. then you will have to adjust the front and rear brakes and derailers. after you do that its a pretty good bike for a 100 bucks
Time Used: Less Than A Month
Comments: buy it if your on a budget. but if you dont want headaches go to your local bike shop and get a better bike. It took me a week to get the Front and rear Brakes to work smooth. and to get it to shift through all the gears correctly. also added a aftermarket seat, longer seat post, and more comfortable handlebars.

Cons: Ok...i've been through 2...the first on broke on my first ride...somehow the back wheel got locked up on the frame when i was going down a hill and completely mangled up the back tire...after exchanging it for the next one after a few rides the pedal assembly began to have some play in it that just got worse and worse...the rear brakes always need adjusting...the shifting blows...and finally the frame snapped near the seat after hitting a small bump in the road...thus ended the reign of this POS...

Pros: It's cheap and is a decent starter if you are getting into mountain biking. It gets you a little used to riding a "full" suspension bike. Did I mention it was cheap???
Cons: First trail I rode I blew the back tire, the handlebars came loose, the kickstand came loose, the rear brakes haven't worked right since. I have never gotten the gears set right and even when I get them close I ride off-road and I have to start over again. Seat will destroy you. I changed it after first ride.
Time Used: 6 Months
Comments: This bike is by no means for a very serious rider, but has served me well to get back into mountain biking. I have already started saving for a "real" bike. It requires constant TLC if you are trail riding, but works well for piddling. I truly beat this bike to death and will probably keep it as a back-up unless I completely destroy it before getting a real bike. Bottom line, good for the price.

Comments: Here is a list of bikes i tried before deciding on the mongoose xr-75: Schwinn ranger schwinn ditch 1.0 mongoose xr250 mongoose xr200 triax specialized hardrock specialized Fsr xc motobecane 400ht gravity newton diamondback sorrento others Out of all of these the specialized bikes are the only ones worth mentioning. The hardrock i would never buy at $379. it would be better to buy a used fcr xc for a little more. the overall performance of all these bikes is only so-so. so why pay more than $100.00? the specialized fcr-xc retails for $1199.00. the fcr-xc is a better bike --- but $1100 better? for 100 dollars (plus another 20 bucks for a new seat) you get a great bike. This bike gets 5 stars for value. one caveat - if you are extra tall or heavy the xr75 won't be right for you.

Pros: Good for the Price (69.99) - Great Style - Very Solid/Comfortable Ride - Rear Suspension Great
Cons: TOO HEAVY - Both Inner Tubes Blew after 20 miles - Seat TOO HARD - Derailleurs are too high maintenance (Seems like I have to adjust after every ride) - Crankset is weak (Snapped off 4 teeth going up a hill) - Front Suspension is WAY TOO SOFT
Time Used: 1 Year
Comments: I bought this bike for its looks (I don't regret it, but i'm not gonna make that mistake again). However, for $70, this is a great bike. But buy a Set of Tubes upon Purchase. Both mine popped at the stem after 20 miles(somebody should really call Mongoose about that). Replace the Seat (Unless your a Sprinter like me and ride Standing up). I've got over 400 miles of gravel and mud on mine and she's still rollin'. Just tighten all the nuts 'n bolts every once in a while, stay away from the Ramps and Drop-offs, and you'll get plenty of years out of her.

Pros: Affordable Price, Comfortable frame.
Cons: Stock seat sucks, stock tubes are weakly manufactured.
Time Used: 3 Months
Comments: Replacing the seat is a 100% must unless you like crack surfing. If you buy this at Walmart, you have to check every nut and bolt before hitting the trail or you will find yourself in a world of hurt. Not the bike's fault, just Walmart's employees only put the bike together just enough to get it on the shelf and are not concerned about safety. I bought 2 bikes from Walmart only to find out the hard way. Replace the inner tube with a good quality tube. My rear tube bust at the seam after about 150 miles of use. It is a cheapie tube so invest in a good tube. Overall, this is a decent bike. Obviously not pro quality but for casual bikers this is a good pickup.
