Limón. Costa Rica.- 11/13/05. Preceded by his achievements during this 2005 mountain bike season, the Swiss Thomas Frischknecht (Swisspower Team) showed why he is considered as one of the most popular mountainbikers on the planet.

With an excellent control over his rivals and a great aptitude to handle the most adverse conditions, "Frischni" wrote a new history last weekend and turned himself in the first foreigner who wins La Ruta de los Conquistadores in Costa Rica.

Thomas won the first day of La Ruta last Friday from Punta Leona (Pacific Coast) to Santa Ana, in San Jose (115 km).

Then he obtained the leader's golden jersey (open category) and all the predictions were aiming to his comfortable victory in La Ruta.

But on the second day the current Marathon Bike Champion of the World lost the yellow shirt when local Marvin Campos (Interfin Banex Pensiones) won the amazing ascent up to the Irazú volcano and the downhill to Aquiares (77.9 km).

Nevertheless, the third day was special for Thomas because he could do an interesting threesome with local Paolo Montoya (La Ruta 2004 winner) and american Jeremiah Bishop.

They made it together up to the finish line in Limón (Caribbean Coast, after 124 Km.) and "Frischni" could recover the leader's jersey and for the history of La Ruta, he turned himself into the first non local who wins the race after 13 years.
