Trail Description:
Thrift cove Starts at a parking lot next to the ranger station in Brevard. An opening in the wooden rail at the end of the parking lot marks the start and you begin a steady climb. After only a hundred yards take the left up Black Mountain (going clockwise) and start a steep and very rocky climb about one mile long. When you reach the top you will find an intersection where Black Mountain branches off to the right. Go straight! (Right is for Massochists like me.) You will continue to climb a now easier and less rocky trail with the deer field just through the trees to your right. You reach the half way point as the trail begins heading more towards the west. When you reach the next wide grassy area you are are ready to get some speed... and Air! There are lots of opportunities to catch invigorating highspeed air should you choose. Be careful as some turns can be very sudden. Whooooooooo! When the trail widens out at the bottom carry on straight ahead! Soon you will find yourself back in familiar territory ready to do it again. There are very few if any creek crossings not a lot of washouts and generally good dirt.

How to get there:
From I-26 take exit 9 towards Brevard on Hwy 280. When you get to Brevard (really Pisgah forest) Stop at either Sycamore Cycles or Back country outdoors for any info and gear. Then head West on 276 for one mile. The parkinglot appears suddenly to your right after you pass the Davidson River Campground entrance which will be on your left. Make sure to park in the paved parking lot and not the dirt one adjacent to it.
