Pit Bull Pass combines a 35 min steep climb up a gravel road with a 1.5 hour descent through primary and secondary rainforest (technical at times) and ends up with a 2 hour climb back to the start along gravel and pavement including some rolling hills.
How to get there:
Drive past Cartago and Paraiso to historical Orosi. The ride starts at the church and follows a gravel road towards Tapanti National Park. 3 km before the gate, take a left to go to Kiri Lodge and from there start climbing up the mountain towards Pit Bull Pass (you will find out why the name). At the top, check out the great views of the Turrialba Valley and then start the descent down to Pejibaye, Tucurrique, Cachi and back to Orosi via Palomo.
