Ride Summary:
Super steep climbing with super steep downhill
Trail Description:
From Elden trailhead, headout going NE on some fun single track. After a mile or so you'll come onto double tracks. After approximately 100 yards, bear left onto more single track that start the climb to the saddle of Mt Elden. This section of climbing is technical. loose and very steep. Do not worry if you have to walk a bit because we haven't seen anyone yet able to ride it all. This section of climbing will take you about 45 minutes. Once to the treeline, go left and across the saddle... walk your bikes if afraid of heights. Just past the fire tower, you will see a nice drop off that leads down some crazy steep drop-offs and switchbacks. DO NOT CUT ACROSS SWITCHBACKS as this area is very sensitive. This adrenaline packed section will last 20-25 minutes and will test your survival instincts. At the bottom, take the first single track trail on the right. Follow the loop around back to your vehicle. This is a short trail but it is guaranteed to test your technical skills.
How to get there:
From downtown Flagstaff take route 66 East to 89A NE. Just past the ranger station, look for the Elden trailhead sign and parking area on the left side.
