After a near death experience of a 8.5 mile climb up a 12 to 15% nasty rocky road into Elk Lake, you're on the ridge of the Cascade's. Take your pick of nice smooth twisties or steep nasty eat up your spokes roots, rocks, snow, mud, wildlife but guess what? No traffic or anyone else once on the trails!
How to get there:
Hiway #22 east from Salem, OR. Drive to Detroit. Take the left across the bridge just inside of Detroit, up a winding paved road for 5 to 6 miles. Stop in the dirt parking lot just after the sign "Elk Lake" Then put on your climbing legs or prepare to die...
There will be snow through June and into July, BUT, don't let that stop you!
