Ride Summary:
Single track with technical sections. Very crowded trail at times. Easy access trail head.
Trail Description:
Apex Trail is part of Apex Park, a Jefferson County Open Space park, in the Denver / Golden metro area. Single track at all times with technical sections consisting of large water bars, softball-sized loose rock, and other riders. Best ride times are late in the evening (ride out at dusk) or during a weekday. Otherwise, Apex is very crowded, making tech sections even more so. Apex is best ridden as a loop with Enchanted Forest, Sluicebox, Grubstake, not as an out-and-back. Apex Park can also be ridden to link with Lookout Mountain Road and Chimney Gulch, adding on miles and time.
How to get there:
From Denver: I-70 West, take Morrison exit, go right, drive one mile and take a left at Heritage Square amusement park. Take immediate right once inside Heritage, to the "lower" parking lot. Drive to the back of the parking lot. Trailhead is at the Apex Park signboard.
Additional Notes:
Short rides. Get your licks after work and go home rides. Avoid the crowds.
