Ride Summary:
This is a very easy, gentle ride - slightly more difficult than paved roads
Trail Description:
All but the hiking trail is an earth berm unpaved road, usually surfaced with shell or ground coquina. There can be a lot of bird watchers walking around, too, so remember that you're sharing the park. This seems to be a site used to dispose of Orlando's treated wastewater, but I didn't realize this until I was leaving; it is a nice looking area. 18 miles of berms surround 17 wetland cells, in which the reclaimed water is naturally treated.
How to get there:
Drive 40 minutes east of downtown Orlando on State Road 50 to Christmas, Fl. Go north (left) 2.3 miles on Ft. Christmas Road (County Road 420). Turn right (east) onto Wheeler Road (unpaved), for 1.5 miles. Parking area will be on your left.
Additional Notes:
7 a.m. until ½ hour before sunset, seven days a week, January 21 - September 30 (Closed October 1 - January 20).
