Kraus Ridge
Trail Description:
Milage Log 0.0 The ride starts level to the southeast along Road 2506 and quickly crosses Woods Creek. 0.3 Pass a swamp on your left and the climb begins up Kraus Ridge. 0.8 Below a large clear cut you'll come to a fork; stay to the left on Road 2506, which levels before continuing the ascent. 2.1 Intersection - go right onto Spur Road 37 for the final half-mile to the trail. Road 2506 continues to the left. 2.6 Turn left onto the Kraus Ridge Trail 275, which starts with an easy climb. This initial ascent is short then turns to an easy stretch through a ridge-top clearing. As the trail hits the trees again, it begins a steeper climb along the ridge crest. 4.6 Look out for a series of steep but rideable switchbacks through trees ending at a small peak in the ridge. The trail now makes a short descent before beginning a pass behind the peak of Bluff Mountain. 5.7 The trail climbs a bit then descends crossing Road 2506. Check you equipment as this section is very fast! 6.1 WOW! The fastest segment of the descent ends at an intersection with an old logging road. The drop continues but is less steep. 7.1 Not as steep as the start, the final stretch of the descent is a treat that ends at Road 2306. Turn left and follow the road down into the Squire Creek Valley. 8.1 The road ends at the pavement of Forest Road 23. Find Road 2305 on your left; follow this road up a short climb then enjoy another downhill section. 9.0 After crossing Squire Creek you'll come to a crossroads. Spur Road 18 is on your left, Spur Road 41 on your right; continue straight on Road 2305 and begins a gradual, half-mile climb. 10.0 The road crosses Ames Creek and parallels it then reaches a long, easy descent. 12.4 Soon after crossing Woods Creek, Road 2305 ends at an intersection with Forest Service Road 25. Go left and follow the pavement back toward the start of the loop. 12.8 Turn left onto Road 2506. 13 The loop ends back at the roadside turnout and your car.
