This trail is great, i started at lone elk and thought nothing of the first 4 miles, which was fun and east then when i hit the incline it was hell, the biggest incline i have been up on a bike, very hard i can say that but besides that it is a great ride and want to do it again!

Well me and my friend just tried this trail out yestarday for our first time and well like everyone says its all up hill full of rocks and lose gravel and tree branchs but when you reach the top your deffently rewarded with a long down hill which is hella's fun, but when we got farther into the trail we started wondering where it circled back to where we parked and well we ended up getting lost and we didnt got even more lost till the only idea we had left was to bike 6 miles down the side of highway 44 which was pretty freaking scary but anyways this is probably one of the best trails around saint louis id would have to say just when you go make sure you have a map of the course

Most of the reviews give an incomplete picture of this awesome trail. Most people prefer to start at Lone Elk Park (close to 44 & 141). The trail starts with a good size single track descent to a forest service road. After about one mile of FS road, you'll cross a train track and ride single track along the Meramec River. After a couple of miles of this, you turn away from the river, cross a field, cross the train tracks, and begin a 350 ft. technical climb. From the top of that climb, you've got a nice -- mostly down hill -- run to the West Tyson County Park trail head. Once you're there, turn around and do it all backwards. The trail is about 7 miles one way. The West Tyson end is very technical: switchbacks, drop offs, rock stairs, etc. -- not suited for beginners. However, most experienced riders agree that this is the premier trail in St. Louis.

this trail is awesome!! there are many rocks to encounter and many areas to allow your rear suspension to strut its stuff!! there are alot of areas where you can sprint to the next technical section!! wooo-hooooo!!! this is a must trail ride even if you must drive a distance to get there(but is short trail). your out of the hills and down by the river quickly!! but hey; 7 miles back though!! Yee-haaa!! rip it up, ride hard!! Randy

This trail is hard! Don't let anyone tell you any different. I have riden from trailhead to trailhead and it is a long ride. Make sure you have a cammel bak or you will be drinking river water or urin. The rocks are sharp and jagged. I have broke a finger and a heart on this trail, but never let it break your soul.

THIS TRAIL REQUIRES A LOT OF MOMENTUM ON THE UPHILLS TO KEEP THE BACK WHEEL FROM SPINNING. THIS TRAIL IS GREAT AND CHANGES THINGS UP OFTEN WHICH KEEPS THINGS INTERESTING.
