Trail Description:
Deer Creek offers rolling single track and nice forest scenery at times. Red Mesa loop is a sweet fast DH. The area is small but the trails can be linked up pretty well making for a fun ride with various options.
How to get there:
470, Wadsworth south, Deer Creek canyon road for a few miles, sign on left. You're there.

More specific directions:
You're getting near when you cross E470 and Wadsworth. Take a right on Deer Creek Canyon rd. Take it all the way until it seems like a T, take the left. Take first left on Grizzley rd., then whined your way up about a half mile. The Deer Creek Park sign will be on the right. Take that right, right into the parking lot!!
That was one hard trail!! If you don't have amazing endurance or leg strength, good luck making it to the top. I don't recommend the Rattlesnake trail unless you have pants. I got all kinds of reactions and scratches. I will try it again another day, just earlier when it's not SO hot.

This trail is a blast!!! The beginning will fool you. It is easy singletrack until you get to the climb. The climb is pretty rugged. There is a really technical part I have only ridden once a long time ago. Past that the climb is easy and mostly in the shade. There are two loops at the top. Red Mesa is my favorite loop. When you get to the for at the top of Red Mesa go to the left on the fire road. This way you can ride mostly downhill on the singletrack part. There are open meadows, great city views, and some awesome singletrack through the forest. After that it is all downhill to the parking lot. Go early because this trail gets real crowded after noon. It is tempting to go super-fast but watch out I there are lots of blind corners. Beside hikers and horses I almost took out a wild turkey last October.

Jeffco Open Space is an incredible resource. Being born in Denver and now living out of state I marvel at what the Open Space Rangers have done for Jeffco Citizens. Respect Animals rights and don't ride at night weenies. Down the road from Deer Creek is a great new open space that is best used to ride over to Deer Creek via Elk and Rattlesnake Gulch trails.

Red Mesa and Plymouth Mountain are sweet. To avoid the crows ride very early in the morning. Don't bother to ride on weekends after 10 am because the trails get crowded. There is a nasty hill up the canyon that I have seen but a handful of people make to the top. The downhill is fast and furious, but watch out for people.

Follow Dave's advice to poach trails and the park may end up being closed to bikes. BIKE RIGHT!

Very nice single track up higher on the trail. Very heavy usage until you get up to the good trails. Red Mesa Loop and Plymouth Mountain trail are the best MOUNTAIN biking this close to denver.
