Trail Description:
Miles of fast rolling hard pack singletrack venturing through pines, berry fields, dense forest and MUD!! Some climbs that you won't forget even the next day and alot of fun fast downhills. Watch for the roots and dropoffs. There is a unique trail that goes right through a stream so after a rainfall this trail is a MUST for mud lovers! There's also a fun sand cliff area that is great to find killer lines down and catch some air for adventureous.
How to get there:
If your coming from Syracuse take rt. 81N to 481N and get off at the first phoenix exit, take a left off the ramp and go all the way down that rd. to the stop sign. Take a right and go down rt.57 (main st.) for app. 8-10 mi. When you will see a Great Outdoors store on your right and some other car dealerships on your left. Go past them and then you will see the Family Auction Barn...thats when you need to start slowing down. On your left after that will be a road crossing over 57 and over to the left will be an area not too many bikers know about, theres a big fence surrounding the area with a oening to enter.
Additional Notes:
This is a very fun trail system but can be difficult to find your way if you don't know the area.

I agree with Peter. I did GA to ME in 2003. Since then I have done many other things. This year I cmmoanded an infantry company in Afghanistan. During that time, when I was in a low place, I reflected on my long and solitary hike on the AT and it made me happy. But I don't think for me the experience of the trail could ever be reproduced by going back. Some things are better left to nostalgia, while as a person I continue to confront more difficult challenges.

I live 8 min away from great bear and go almost each weekend. trails for all levels and a blast to ride. a local group (friends of great bear) in the last few years has stoped 4 wheelers, built more trails and bridges across streams. look out for hikers as for this place is busy on the weekends, but with *15+ miles you can ride hours and still not see anyone.

Great riding area. trails for all types, great area for beginners as well as some technical areas. to get there? just use your gps(get one),intersection of great bear road and rt.57(as previously commented), about 25-30 min from downtown Syracuse.

real nice singletrax. Bonus, you ride down trails and can come back on dirt roads if you want, just to do it all over again. Many trail with log crosses, a few jumps, mud holes, etc.. I didn't even get to all the trails. Most were smooth w/just a few roots/loose rocks. Can't wait to try some more.

directions above need to be re-visited. Take rt 57 North of Phoenix for about 4-5 miles. Its at the intersection of Great Bear Rd and Rt 57. Park on left by fenced in area.

Took me 15 minutes to realize there was a swinging gate just to the right of the main gate. Once I figured out how to get in I had a great time. (TRAIL TIP) Atv's and beverages with large quantities of barley and hops do not mix. Stay Alert!

I hope you like mud. Nice drops in the sand/gravel pit. Plenty of trails to satisfy riders of all skill levels. Use caution! Surprised woodchucks try to bite!
