Trail Description:
The trail is divided into three sections ranked in consecutive order, beginner, intermediate, and advanced, although the skill is really all about the same. They are connected by a dirt road and are very well maintained and marked. It is mostly twisty singletrack with a few tight sections with some rolling hills and log jumps. Overall, a very nice ride.
How to get there:
Take Jefferson Park Blvd East exit off of I64. Turn left, Harwood Mills Park and parking lot will be on left side. Trail entrance is further up across the street.

Great ride if you have an hour to kill. Novice trail
short with a few logs and lots of roots. Advanced
trail not difficult at all, a little smoother with a quick
view of the water. Overall a fun little ride. I would
like to add to the directions that you turn left off of
17 and the parking lot is a short distance down on
your right. Take the novice trail in to get to the
advanced or skip it and take the fire road all the
way in to find the other trails.

After getting a desperate phone call from my husband becuase he was totally lost, I spent 20 minutes on Mapquest to learn that this is actually off of Rt. 17, not 173, and you all are very wrong with your directions! I-64 to Victory Blvd, make a left onto Rt. 17, Pass Mill LN, the trail is off the next Road, #614, on your right hand side

The directions that are posted on here are not quite right. When you get off of I-64 go West. Take Jefferson Blvd. to Rt-173 and hang a right. Then go to Old Dinghbe Blvd. (i think that is the correct spelling) and hand another Right. After this the directions are correct. This was the first time that my wife and I had ever been on a bike trail. We both had a good time. The trails were not so tough that we didn't want to keep going, but there wern't so easy that we didn't break a sweat.

Not bad at all for this area. If you go across the street at the end of the advanced trail and continue past the model airplane area there are some trails usually use by motorcycles (deep ruts). After this there is another trail a little further down Richneck Rd. (near golf course). If your feeling adventurous you can head into Yorktown Battlefields (there are a few hidden trails here and there) or even link to Newport News Park (flat double track) to add a few more miles. If you start at Harwood and do all this you can ride 20 to 30 Miles without doing the trails over and over.

This place has one advantage: location. Load up the bike in the morning, and hit this trail on your way home from work. My 7-year-old son can do these trails, so that'll tell you how tough they are. Still, it sure beats riding around the neighborhood. Novice trail - kind of irritating, lots of roots, no other challenge. Advanced trail - the toughest of the three, but still hardly a Waller Mill. Expert trail - give me a break...this trail is the smoothest, easiest of them all. Again, though, this trail is as convenient as they come, and will make you glad you don't live in Wash DC.

All three trails are extremely easy, even the expert was a waste of time. No fast downhills. Very rooty. Only good part is if you don't have much time this gives you a quick workout. Don't go here unless it is your first time riding.

A good ride when you don't have alot of time. Can get tricky when damp. Lots of roots on the "advanced" trail. Not difficult. One Way only. Int-Adv riders take about 30-35 mins.
