Trail Description:
This trail is mostly fast rolling singletrack with some nice log sections and water crossings. It is divided into two loops A and B which are both the same skill level. Long climbs are non existent but the trail weaves through an active farm which makes for nice scenary changes along with the seasons.
How to get there:
Take Clopper road exit E off of I270. Go about 6 miles and turn left on Shaeffer Rd. Continue about 3 miles to Trail entrance and parking lot. Both loops begin at the end of lot.

While it seems this trail is somewhat maintained,it is by no means awesome. It is ho-hum at best, nothing that actually grabs your attention. I never had that woo-hoo feeling. I rode all trails in about one hour. To whomever maintains these trails, install more bridges over the creeks. Some creeks are badly damaged due to traffic, and if I wanted to get my drivetrain and bike muddy, I'll ride in the rain! If I lived within a 15 mile radius I'd ride it, but I drove from belair(being in Maryland for about a year I want to see all it has to offer before returning to Colorado). The most outstanding place I have found is White Clay/Middle Run(Newark, DE), It is what all mountain biking destinations should model themselves after!420

I like this trail. If you're intersted, the patapsco state park has a few amazing mountain biking trails, water crossings, rocks, tree logs, under passes, you name it, it has it. I go there pretty much every week and love it. It's over near BWI airport/UMBC campus and there's an entrance from Rt 166 near the park and ride.

Great trail for an aerobic workout. I'm addicted to the White tail which is said to be the more difficult trail. It's only 3.5 miles and I often do it twice.
I've used this in preparation for MTBing races at Fountainhead(the best) in Virginia.

I went to this place for the first time last weekend. I'm new to the sport, and this is the first trail I've ever visited that was specifically designed for mountain bikers. Shaefer is incredible. I hadn't before done any log climbing/hopping, but the set-up at this spot makes the process pretty self-explanatory. I actually taught myself how to ride my bike over logs piled 1-2 feet high (of course there may be a better way than the way I did it, but it was still a lot of fun). I highly recommend Shaefer to new bikers who are ready to experiment with clearing logs, because it offers plenty of opportunities. If you are familiar with this location and can recommend other similar trails in the area, please post.
