Trail Description:
The Vance trails cover a varied topography of steep hills and river bottoms in about equal portions. It is exclusively tight single track that sheds water well with the exception of a 1/2 mi. stretch. This is

a fairly technical trail with good climbs and descents, fast flowing tracks along river bluffs, and a few whoop-t-dos as well. A little rough but worth the ride. Similar to Clear Springs but not as severe.

How to get there:
Take the Liberty exit(Highway 24 west) off I-55. Go 20 mi. to Liberty, proceed through the town and about 2 mi. beyond. On the left there will be a sign to the Ethyl V Stratton Natural area. After entering the park go past the large metal bldg. to the trailhead, apprx. 75 yards on the right.

Trails are in need of alot of work, we spent most of the time moving brush and logs. Trail is not rideable at this time, alot of time will be spent off the bike. Depending on the direction you are driving, stick to Hooper in Baton Rouge or Clear Springs. Crossing this one off the list.

Anyone know what county these trails are in Liberty? I'm new to the biking scene and these sound like some great trails to hit up, so I'm trying to mapquest directions! Thanks!

Anyone ride this trail? I rode it today. The trail is supposed to be 10 miles. After 1.5 miles I ended up back at the trail head. I followed the orange ribbons the whole time. I rode it four times in a row, but never saw any other way. The 1.5 miles was fun, but I don't want to drive 2 hours to ride a 1.5 mile trail. I would appreciate if anyone can offer advise on where I went wrong.

After riding Clear Springs for 10 years the Vance Trail was a nice change of pace. We rode after a major rainstorm and the trail stayed in great shape. The roots from some of the ancient trees along the trail can dump you into the river if you are not paying attention. A tight trail that is a lot of fun. We look forward to doing it again soon!

Good choice if just starting out. Not too technical but fun. Don't take your eyes off the trail when you are next to the river or you may get wet. May is a good month to ride it. It was fun!! (If two 54 & 55 year old can do it in style anyone can.
