Trail Description:
This is a very nice, little known or used trail that starts out on mostly forested single track, then moves onto more open oak covered granite rock flats and ridges. There are a few dificult sections but some of the rock riding and mud holes can be quite challenging and definitely fun. I would call it an intermediate level ride, I think a beginner would be getting on and off the bike a lot. Dual suspension is perfect for soaking up the bumps on this terrain. The trail winds past 2 undeveloped lakes and ends on a very picturesque rocky point that is perfect for a secluded swim in a pristine lake. Then ride back out - a great way to spend a summer afternoon. Deer flies are really bad in July, and watch for bears as this is a secluded area and I have often seen scat. Mid August is probably perfect, bugs are done and the blackberries are ripe.
Note that because of the rock riding the trail can be hard to follow if you do not know just where you are going- however getting seriously lost is not going to happen.
How to get there:
Trail starts across the road from MacDonalds in Gravenhurst, Ontario, and immediately climbs up onto a high granite ridge overlooking a marsh. Do not pop wheelies or other tricks here as the trail is just a few feet from an 80-100 ft drop. Soon the trail cuts away into the forest for nice winding single track that exits at Pinedale Rd & Hwy 11. Cross Hwy 11 then head south for 100 yds along an abandoned dirt road adjacent to the hwy, then the trail cuts into the bush starting on loamy double track before emerging out onto more open granite rock. Here just keep a sharp eye out for bike tracks and rock cairns as trail markers.
Additional Notes:
take a swim suit - once in a while there is someone else there and you may have to wear it.

Great trail, ride often because close to home. Continue all the way to the natural gas pipeline for many short hill climbs and descents and you will ride into Beaver Ridge trailer park; I have even made a loop by coming back to Gravenhurst via Hwy 11, not recommended.
