From Sonora take 108 up to Pinecrest. Park at Pinecrest Ranger Station. About 400feet down 108 on the left is a dirt road, goes down to a houseing district, follow paved road to a dirt road on the right. Go around the gate and start the trail to Sping Gap. Ther are other bikers on this trail. At Sping Gap go up the road about a quarter of mile and turn right on dirt road. This where you might meet a vehicle in hunting season. follow road to Lions lake. For a longer ride go on to Twain Harte from here. Makes for a 34 mile ride. About 4 miles of Hyway riding.

I started at the Lions Dam parking lot on a beautiful April 30, 2011. First, I went west: very easy ride with terrific view of redwood and pines. Snow was still melting and left some fun areas of mud and water. Going the other way, I crossed areas of snow and a cold creek. Easy ride, but highly recommended.

When they say "Spring Gap" they actually mean "Fraser Flat" and when you hit the pavement there, turn left, then take the first right. After making the turn on to the pavement, intermediate riders can add a little singletrack by climbing over the gaurdrail on the side of the road right where a rock has been placed on the post. Hike down and you'll find it. This trail follows the RR grade, then climbs up to the dirt road that continues to Lyon's Lk.

A great low difficulty ride. Mostly level with a couple of short hills. Make sure you head east from the pinecrest ranger station, not "down" which some might confuse as heading west. Weather is usually agreeable and there are great views of rivers and Lyons reservoir along the way. Trees, water, mountains... who could ask for more? If you don't have time to drive all the way to pinecrest or want a shorter ride, Turn left off 108 just before LongBarn on Lyons Dam Road. From the parking lot you can go east or west. Both ways provide dirt road (not singletrack) and an easy ride. One stream crossing if you go east and three gates. Another entry point, the Fraser Flat Road (another left off 108 further up from Lyons road). Drive down to the bridge, ride east for some single track and dirt road mix and great views. A 3 mile GRADUAL climb to Strawberry road and then 3 miles downhill. Fun! Distances, 5 miles (1way) from Ly
