Trail Description:
Fun. And Lots of it. A favorite with the locals. Single track, switchbacks, mud, sand, and lots of log crossings. A special part of the course is the "PlayGround". A rolling set of bmx style jumps, dropoffs, and a few vertical drops. Sick. BMX riders like to hang there, but Mountain bikes rule the place. There is miles and miles of fire roads for family rides.

How to get there:
From Jacksonville: Go South on HWY 17 towards Wilmington. Once you pass the Marine Corps Air Station's backgate, continue on for about 1 mile. Once you pass the bridge, get in the left lane and look for the (left) turning lane. You will be turning onto a dirt road with a Yellow gate at the end. That is where you park. Trail head is right there.

Additional Notes:
US Goverment Property, but you don't need a pass to park. Game Warden might question you, but t

Had a great ride, but was given a ticket for trespassing on federal property. You MUST have a pass from the main gain at the air station and you can only get one if you have a "sponsor" on base. Save yourself the hassle (and expense of a fine) and find another trail.

Lots of fun to be had here--the first portion is well marked and ends in the bmx pit. The rest of the trail goes in each section of the trees divided by the dirt road intersection. Enjoy!

Anyone out there ride bmx for real? Just never meet anyone around here that rode so my bike is just getting dust all over it.

Just rode this trail for the first time on Saturday. Only my 2nd time really "mountain" biking. The trail was pretty good, not too long. Had lots of roots, some good climbs. Also had plenty of bridges, balance beam, teeter-totter, and a sweet BMX section, if that's your thing.

Our club has been doing a LOT of work out here, new bridges, obstacles and trail. The best riding in Eastern NC, come and check it out. http://downeastcyclingclub.com

This trail is being updated and maintained by DownEastCyclists and they are doing a great job. The trail is full of great riding. Lots of hills, tight single track, a bmx jump pit. It has a little bit of everything for everyone. I concur with the "no walmart bike unless you want to go slow". full suspension is not a bad Idea.

I've never had a problem with access or military infact I've been told its no big deal by the military guys out there. This is a nice ride, and the playground area is cool to geek around in. This is as good as it gets for eastern NC.

Has anyone out there heard of a trail in the pamlico county area? I ran across it on a web site one but cannot find it now. Any other trails in the New Bern / Craven County area or within an hour or so? Email me at nbsoundworks@yahoo.com Thanks!

The trail is divided into four loops that run as a single track, so if you have any problems you can always find your way back to a road. The distance is more like 3 miles, but it is a tough three miles. The first track was logged out and destroyed, but the other three are still usable. The trail has plenty of roots, logs, creek crossings, dips, etc.. This is not a trail where you go flat out. Currently, one loop is being extended to include some longer straight aways, hopefully this will double the length of this loop. Don't use a Walmart bike on this trail unless you like to go slow and get hurt.
