How to get there:
From downtown take Taylor till it turns into Forest Dr. Stay on Forest as it crosses over I-77. This turns into Imboden Street as you enter Fort Jackson. Take this to Lee Road (Burger King on the corner). Take a right onto Lee. Take a left onto Semmes. Drive past golf course till you see a small parking area on your left with a sign in the parking lot for the Palmetto Trail.

Well maintained? Try NOT maintained, trash, Trees and crap all over the place, not to mention that the trail just ends its also non-existent in many places. I thought it was supposed to connect and go all the way across SC or something.

The trail is maintained pretty well for the most part but the farther you get out the less traveled the trail is and the harder it is to follow. The last few miles are the toughest to follow...I recommend you give it a try

The beginning of this trail is on the Fort Jackson reservation. Bring an ID if you intend on riding the first mile and a half. The trail is an out and back, but the mileage for the posting is a little off. It is 18 miles one way. Which means 36 for an out and back.
