Trail Description:
From PCH ride up Big Sycamore Canyon fire road. Long warm-up (5 mi), gentle incline. Watch for horses, hikers, and sightseers. At about 5 miles, turn left on Ranch Center dirt road, ride ~75 yards, and turn right onto a narrow, rutted, rocky singletrack climb to Ranch Center paved road at 6 miles. Turn left and ride to the old water tank and down the paved road to the Wood Canyon trail. Enjoy fast, rolling descent for another mile or so to the Guadalasco Trail junciton on the right. A few seasonal water crossings along the way. Turn right onto Guadalasco trail and begin a long, sometimes technical climb on singletrack. Be wary of a few downhillers who like to blaze this section, and watch out for horses. Once you reach the Overlook fire road, turn left (pretty much the only way you can go) and grunt up the last steep section to the highest point on the trail at the burnt fencepost. Enjoy beautiful views of Sandstone Ridge (Boney Ridge), the coast, and the Camarillo area. Then cinch the helmet down, put 'er in the big ring, and hammer down the fire road till it bottoms out and begins to climb again at a 4-way junction. Proceed just past the junction and look left for a singletrack spur that takes you to the top of a twisty, somewhat technical singletrack on the Backbone Trail. This leads you back to big Sycamore Canyon where you turn right and take a 2- or 3-mile cool down back to your car. Lots of variations; hot in summer once back in the canyon. Best time to ride is wildflower season - March through June, but it's good all year.
How to get there:
From LA: I-10 West till it ends at PCH (Hwy 1). Proceed north about 30 miles to the Big Sycamore Canyon entrance to Big Sycamore Canyon State Park.
Additional Notes:
Many park along the road outside the park and ride in around a couple boulders at the end of the fen

Try starting in Newbury park off of the 101 and ride up coyote, down through oak canyon, up hell hill, down guadalisco and then back up the paved road road to the Satiwa Indian Cultural Center. A much more strenious ride with awesome views.

A new technical downhill scream is at the water tank called coyote. Consider body armor.
