Trail Description:
A trail designed by mountain bikers for mountain bikers. 3 miles of rolling single track in a heavily wooded valley. The trail has several creek crossings, many switchbacks, and washout whoops. There is alot to keep you busy on the 3 miles of this trail. You are either going uphill or down there is not much place to rest so you will get a good workout.

How to get there:
From I-70 take Hwy. 94 South to Defiance. Go past Defiance about a mile and a half to Matson Hill-Katy Trail parking.Take a right and follow the gravel road up a long hill (killer climb on a bike), at the top take a right, and follow the road a half mile to the trail head on the left.

Additional Notes:
There is not alot of parking area at the trailhead. To make a real nice ride park at the Defiance-K

Short but tough trail. Very wooded setting, all single-trak, almost jungle like. For more information, trail conditions, and a map go to: http://www.gorctrails.com/trails/mmatsonhill.asp

Very nice trail. We rode this after doing Lost Valley in the morning. It was close to 100 degrees, but the trail is heavily wooded, so the temp was bearable. I consider myself to be an up and coming beginner, or low grade intermediate. I only had to push through a couple of switchbacks. With a little more practice and pre-planning, I could probably ride 99% of the trail. Do yourself a favor if you don't like long climbs. Bike the trail counterclockwise. If you look at the topo map available at the trailhead, you'll see that to your right is pretty much one long downhill. If you travel counterclockwise, you'll have a more gradual ascent up a smoother trail. The downhill on the other side is more technical. Very nicely constructed trail. Some rocks, but minimal roots. It's well marked, contrary to what has been said. It's a good place for agressive beginners, like myself or advanced riders who want to do some fast laps. The only downfall is it's sho

not much time to rest on this single track, it's either uphill or down. one thing i didn't like about the trail was the lack of direction. the 3 mile trail quickly turns into 9 because it is easy to get lost and turned around. the trail isn't exactly a loop, it has several cut-offs. since everything looks the same it is hard to figure out where you are. usually i'll mark a spot with my bandana to find my way back.

fun, fast trail. Anyone who considers the gravel road climb to the trailhead is one sadistic bastard. lots of creek crossings and fast downhills followed by some killer climbs back to the top. fallen trees block the trail in three places, but overall very fun and scary fast.
