Trail Description:
Creeper trail was named after the Creeper train track. The track was removed and transformed into a bike trail. You can take a suttle to the top of Mt Rogers and it is a slow decline down or you may ride up the trail. There are many bridges that cross over streams and water falls. There is an old train station to stop, rest, and refreshments available. This trail can be a wonderful family outing.

How to get there:
The trail runs from Abingdon, Virginia, to the North Carolina Line near Whitetop Mountain. The best place to start is in Abingdon or the top of Mt. Rogers.

This is a wounderful trail for the family and I think it was well worth it. There is about 5 remote camping spots along the trail and next time we will bring a pack and spend the night along the river, this trail is a must do. oh ya and I think I pedeled about 5% of the trail.

This trail is perfect for anyone with kids or just wanting a leisure trail to ride. The trail is uphill from Damascus whether traveling up to White Top or Abingdon. I enjoy the ride from Alvarado to Abingdon and back, but many sections are beautiful and worth the trip.

I've been on the Creeper Trail two times so far, and loved it like it was a new experience both times. First was with a fast group, and second was with a slower...had to stop and wait alot. Planning to do it a few more times in the future!

I've been laid up due to back trouble for the last few years. After surgery, a friend recently convinced me to ride the Creeper trail in order to get exercise. I must say that I was worried about the condition of the trail. Rest assured it is in excellent condition. We usually put in at the Straight Branch area (above Damascus st. rt 58) and ride the 14 or so miles up to Whitetop. The scenery is fantastic and the grade a little challenging for those with limited riding ability, but the ride and view are worth it. For those who wish to ride in order to exercise this is the trail for you. Whitetail deer, squirrels, trout and the occasional snake can be spotted for the wildlife viewers. If you have the time i recommend that you try the whole trail.

An excellent trail for everyone. When I ride with a group of beginners, we take the shuttle to the top and ride down. I get a good workout riding back and forth keeping tabs on the different groups of riders. The ride from Damascus to Abingdon is much flatter than the ride from Whitetop Station to Damascus. You may begin in Abingdon, ride to Whitetop and back and have a 68 mile ride with a lot of climbing in the middle.
