Trail Description:
This an EXTREMELY quiet trail. On saturdays and very nice days the bike traffic can get heavy at times, but for people looking for a quick fix, this is it! About half-way through the 2nd trail you will come up on a dirt bike park. They have jumps and small little runaway trails. There are 5 trails total, not including the small ones you can find here and there. The terrain is VERY rocky so suspension is recommended on trails 1,2, and 4. The entire thing runs right next to the beautiful Ausable River, but there are no guard rails..sooooo.... dont fall in. I would suggest this trail for all Intermediate riders and Advanced riders who want some good, clean exercise. The trail also includes some cliffing and access to a small (drinkable water) lake where you can actually refill your water bottles with the clean river water. At the end of most trails as your heading out you can catch a glimpse of 40% of the Adirondack mountains from the view point. There is also lots of green around the ends of the trails.

How to get there:
It's behind the Field House in Plattsburgh (city not town).

Additional Notes:
Children under the age of 12 should not be on Rolling Thunder.

The trail is known as "The Blue Trails" I'm a native of Plattsburgh and have never heard the term Rolling Thunder for the trails. Also, the trails offer alot for every rider there are plenty of side trails and varying log rides for all levels of riders to enjoy!

Absolutely my favorite place to bike or run whenever I get back to Plattsburgh. Miles of trails, constantly branching off each other. Great place for serious cross-country running too(In fact, the college has some of the trails marked for their cc meets). Interesting sections, lots of exposed bedrock, small rocks, and roots, but I don't think that a suspension system is necessary. Many of the trails are through the woods, and some follow the Saranac River (these are generally set back a few feet from the river, with trees or brush in between, so there is no danger of getting wet-further upstream, however, as you get closer to the Northway, the elevation above the river increases in spots, and you do have to proceed more cautiously). Finally, because you are far, far away from any streets or roads until you get near the Northway, it's an excellent place to allow your dog to run with you off-leash.
