Trail Description:
Generally pretty technical. Thin single track, no-go-around roots, rocks, steep but short up-and-downs. Often trail is laterally angled. The thin trail and thick foilage keep you on your toes -- you never know what you'll run into around the next corner...

How to get there:
These trails are in the woods which are off the paved bike path along the Milwaukee River just north of North Ave. Enter along lakefront, on the west side of Lafayette St. near the top of the hill.

Additional Notes:
There is a similar trail on the other side of the river too.

I just heard the Metro Mountain Bikers are looking into possible work/improvements on this trail. I love the trail the way it is, but with a little work it could be amazing. I would love to add some more logs and rock gardens. This could be a technical wonder.

I checked with my wood guy (my old boss) and I can definatly get free wood..( I used to build large wood play houses. The wood is already milled and great for outdoor use... I believe its treated for outdoor use as well.... if interested contact me at rancefrankum@yahoo.com

I start the trail at the ancourage resteraunt and try to do the entire loop where it comes back up on hampton and port washinton... where does the higher up part of the start start/ begin to go up?.... also I would like to be able to help out in maintaining and adding on.... I may have a supplier of wood (free) and ive got a truck to load it up.... just no place to store it...the wood would be perfect for building ramps and bridges ( mainly 4x4 and 1.5x4....lengths would vary......let me know if I can be of any help.... friday after 12 and weekends are best for me now... (I also have a small handsaw.....

i too ride this trail very often.. every day to every other day. I can bring my old chainsaw from parents house... performance of that machine is iffy, but if it helps i willl... also a weedeater to get that area of grass just north of locust on the west side... lemme know when you guys are going out.

Logan, perhaps you are referring to the two detours on the west side between Locust & North. Yeah, I started to clear the branches from the existing trail but realized it was a futile effort, so I rerouted it. As for the frequently falling trees, the soil on the river is saturated with its water and trees absorb it to full capacity causing the trees to be "overweight." Then, during a storm, the wind gusts hit the crown hard and branches snap. I expect and hope that the trail will evolve farther uphill away from the river. Oh, and while on the trail in Estabrook Park, please use the higher path and break it in. Its more technical than the lower, flatter path. Peace!

Nice work on maitaining the trail...and thanks to who ever spraypainted those pipes orange......why do so many trees keep falling?

Any trail maintaince is appreciated by all. If you have a shovel, bring it. If you have a handsaw or chainsaw, bring it. If you have a weedeater, BRING IT! When a tree falls on the trail, build over it or around it. I've been building up loose corners and rerouting around fallen trees. Maybe you've seen some of my work on the west side. Maintaining the trail is half the sport. Take a muddy, gray day and do it! Quit your griping about theiving bums! I hope I never see one because that'll prove I'm moving too slowly! I salute my dirt to you!

some of ramps have already been replaced....now the newly fallen trees need to be cut..........who has a chainsaw?

This is a good trail but the bonzai (dirt halfpipe) needs work and some a$$holes took down the wooden ramps. Whoever is building these wood ramps keep up the good work, I'll add some stuff two along with some shovels. Hail Satan! that is all..
