Trail Description:
The trail follows the Tongue River upstream. There are several variations once you're up the canyon a ways. Best done as an 'out & back', but some people (wimps)take a shuttle up the paved highway to the top and ride down.
How to get there:
The Dayton turnoff is about 10 miles north of Sheridan off of I-25. The road to the canyon is the road to the right directly before you cross the bridge over the Tongue River. Follow this road into the canyon for about 4 miles to a small campground where the trailhead starts.
Additional Notes:
Watch out for bears.

I've ridden this trail since I was young. I've not seen a whole host of people riding UP all the way (not a 1000 foot gain in elevation but almost 4000 feet instead, if you ride to the actual end near Burgess Junction)but the ride down is awesome. Riding it in the summer can be excruciating due to the heat. There are indeed bears, rarely seen. More numerous are day-hikers and fishers. Poison ivy is prolific and I've seen a number of snakes. As an alternative, shuttle to the top and take the Cutler Creek Canyon Trail down. A much shorter, far steeper ride, and less ivy.

This is one long steep anerobic climb, and the trail is lined with poison ivy. But the view is beyond compare.
Best to ride in the fall after the biting flies and skeeters are gone.
Not likely to see a bear on this trail.
