Just finished the trail (which by the way is not in wilderness). It's a bit technical at each end, pretty mellow in the middle. Went from Sparks to Lava - and shuttled back - about 10 miles. Ash bogs you down a bit, lava rock and ups and downs. Great trip!

Talk about doing your research, Brendan, you are so wrong, dude. Sparks lake to Lave is NOT Wilderness, it is national forest. All trails south of Cascades Lakes Hwy our outside the wilderness.

Reply to Dan - Actually you should do some research. This trail is NOT in a wilderness area. It is contained within the boundries of the Deschutes National Forest east of the Three Sisters Wilderness Area. This ride is featured in the mountain biking maps available at the bike shops in Bend.
