Trail Description:
Asphalt Ridge is a short loop p[perfect for novice riders looking to explore. the best time to ride it is in the spring, fall or early summer mornings. There is zero shade so be sure top take water. 2 miles of loop are paved and follows Hwy 40. Traffic on Hwy 40 is moderate to heavy with truck traffic. From viewpoint, head south on Hwy 40, 2 miles, to the power lines crossing highway. Make a sharp left on dirt road and follow the power lines 1.7 miles. Route goes over a low pass, then turns left (stay on dirt) and travels NW along the base of Asphalt Ridge. Watch for visible outcroppings of natural, black asphalt which gave the ridge its name. Vernal was one of the first towns in Utah to have paved streets because of the deposit. Two and a half miles brings you back to the viewpoint.

How to get there:
Trail starts at the scenic viewpoint on Hwy 40, 5 miles SW of Vernal.
