Trail has a paved section that is a rails-to-trails. There are also mountain bike trails off of the paved trails ranging from easy to tough intermediate. There are walkers and runners to share the trail with but you will not have much trouble if all use proper trail etiquette. Also there are two other great trails sustems in Lynchburg, Peaks View Park and Candlers Mountain. Both are excellent mountain bike trails providing great workouts.

The trails in Lynchburg are good for beginning and intermediate riders looking for a little respite from the rat race. They offer a good opportunity to get out and have a workout without too much travel time. Weekdays are the best, you will find yourself alone much of the time.

Correct. The main "trail" is simply a paved over railroad bed. There are a few singletrack trails that branch off. I sure havn't seen "hundreds" of trails and its no where near Appomattox. Thats 20 miles away.

if you can choose some great singletracks if you take the time to find them. walkers are irritating but not frequent enough to ruin a ride.

Black Water creek is a paved trail which is flat in relativity to the surrounding areas. It has several dirt trails, however they are shared with walkers, and aren't too wide. This trail was converted from an old train way i believe. Therefore there are lighted tunnels, and bridges. Close to the city, so there is noise, but a good place to get away for a few hours.
