Trail Description:
The main trail, a doubletrack jeep road, runs up a forested ridge and across the top. Five miles of interlocking singletrack trails loops off the jeep road.
The trail's toughest climb comes at the start, as the jeep road makes a steep ascent to the top of the ridge. Don't get discouraged; most of singletrack trails atop the ridge aren't nearly this steep.
The trail network features loop after loop of singletrack trail rolling through a mature forest with tall poplars and pines. You'll roll through a rhodendron tunnel, dip past an old homestead, twist and turn up and down the ridges and cruise past a finger of the lake on the trails. While the trails have some tough spots, they're built to be fast and fun.
How to get there:
From US 421 in Wilkesboro Take the N.C. 268 exit (exit 286B). Turn left at the traffic light at the bottom of the exit ramp. Proceed approximately 3.0 miles. Turn right onto Reservoir Road; look for a large brown "W. Kerr Scott" directional sign.
Drive across W. Kerr Scott Dam. Park in the lot down the hill to the left. Hours of operation are posted at the Dam. If you will be riding after hours, there is parking outside of the gate.

besides all the excessive amount of excrement apparently... this trail is a great place to take someone who is just getting into the sport, and is also a great place to make your technical skills better (great burms, teeter totter, jumps, rock garden, whoops) and on top of that is just a ton of fun..not to mention it is beautiful

We took the 24 hour Burn route. After riding to the trailo, we got lucky and hooked up with a local Brushy Mountain Bike club member, our own personal tour guide. He took us up and in a a steady and demanding pace. Going up the snake was as demanding as any weekend warrior will want. The downhills was crazy fast. Overlook Mountain trail was more fun, this one was harder and more challenging.
