Trail Description:
Lots of incredible trails to choose from in this area--downhill/shuttles; short loops; or all day trips that never cover the same trail twice. Flat Mountain is a round dome, and there is a gravel road that circles it halfway up. Lots of trails above and below this road, and elevation gain ranges from moderate to long and arduous. The trails are maintained by motocross club, and are closed to infernal combustion engines during fire season. You absolutely must have a map and local bike shop advice before venturing here.

How to get there:
From Corvallis, west on Hwy 34 towards Waldport. After turning south on 34 past Philomath, go ~5.5 miles, then left on Bodkin Road (first left after Decker Road--both Decker & Bodkin intersect Hwy 34 from east); go ~.6 miles, and park at Y. If you're on Hwy 34 and you're driving uphill through curves, you've gone too far. Again, you must check with locals for maps and specific trail advice before traveling here.

you must participate in one day work party to ride legally. no permit could result in a citation and a fine.

To clarify ranger's statement: you can obtain a permit to ride motorcycles on this property. You can not obtain one for mountain biking. Mountain biking is not allowed here, and i wish an administrator would remove this trail listing from this site as it only encourages people to try and ride mountain bikes in this area. This is a motorcycle riding area only. And yes, these rules are enforced by the Benton county sheriff's department.

You need to obtain a permit to ride in this area. The fine is $500 for no permit and it is heavily patrolled by Sherrif Dept. To get a permit, you need to volunteer for 1 of 3 trail maintenance 8 hour days organized through the club. Contact the club for more info.

I just spoke with Paul Mortenson at Starker Forests (mentioned below) and he told me that mountain biking isn't allowed at any time on Flat mountain! He told me that tuttum tree farm is where i should be looking at....any thoughts please?

The previous poster is correct. Starker forest allows motorcycle use by permit only at this area. Permits are issued only if the person is a member of the club and they have completed trail work parties. Mountain bikes are not allowed and are considered trespassing, and if caught are subject to a $500 ticket from the sheriff's department. Starker has opened an area specifically for mountain bikes near Blodgett.

I inquired at Starker for a trail permit. I was told the area is motorcycle use only, and mountain bikes are not allowed.
