Trail Description:
This trail starts out with a killer 1 mile climb that takes you to the top of a mountain offering some killer scenery. You are then rewarded with about 3 miles of ridgeline downhill that takes you down to the river before the trail levels out for some nice rolling terrain along the San Joaqine River. Some people ride in about 7 to 10 miles and turn around but if you're up for it this trail will take you all the way to Squaw Leap Campground where your shuttle car can take you home.
How to get there:
From Fresno, take 41 N to Friant Rd. Head East on Friant for about 15 minutes until you see the golf course and casino. Turn left onto Sky Harbor Dr. (right before the casino) and follow it all the way until it dead ends (about 5 miles). Park in the dead end and ride your bike to the right towards the picnic area. You should see a green gate on a trail going uphill. Go throgh the green gate and get to climbing. At the top of the hill the trail T's. A left will take you down a 'killer' downhill back to the parking lot and a right takes you down to the river and on the real trail.
Additional Notes:
Some people prefer to start at Squaw Leap and end up at Sky Harbor.

I have grown up using this trail and I will be back,
Joe. What a wonderful trail it has been, back in the
70's a great short single track on a steel Stump. It
had great, yet, dangerous downhills, long traverse...

Irode this trail in May. There is a tree fallen across the trail about 1/2 mile up. You will have to walk around the fallen tree. Its a steep climb and will have to carry you mtb.

the trail has a shortcut so you can skip the 1 mile
uphill and take the 1 mile downhill instead. call tri
sport or ask the locals they'll know.

The initial climb is steep and it never seems to end, but once past it, you can ride the ridge line with great views of the lake and back into the valley. If you're riding in the late spring or summer, take plenty of water! This trail is more accomodating to bikers than the Gorge trail. Park on the road and avoid paying the $7.00 parking. The rangers in the area are cool and don't mind you parking on the road as long as you're not impeding traffic. Watch for hikers when you're charging downhill back to the parking lot! That last downhill back to the parking lot is worth the climb!!

This trail is very crazy! I wouldn't say 'not for beginners', but definitely NOT for the faint of heart! I had to walk for a good portion of it, but there are some really exciting downhills. Make sure your bike is in decent shape before attempting and wear gloves! Bring lots of water!

Very good trail, not for beginners. Bring plenty of water specially doing this trail in the summer. Killer views of Millerton Lake and fast downhill on the way back.

Poor Joe didn't experience the best part of the trail. Getting to the top of the 1 mile climb in is just the beginning. From there you take a right and follow the ridgeline down the other side of the mountain and down to the river for some fun rolling singletrack. I rode in for about 10 miles and turned around. Don't forget that you have to go back UP that ridgeline that you came down...but you're rewarded with the killer 1 mile downhill to finish off your ride. Well worth the trip if you're in the Fresno area.

Crazy, period. This trail is very narrow and steep, more like a hiking trail. We ran into a couple hikers on our ride too. If you can ride this trail to the top without stopping, you are THE man/woman. I had to walk it for a stretch. I didnt see a definitive trail to continue on once we reached the top, so I dont know where it goes. It was cool though, nice view of the lake and surrounding area, plus theres a picnic area at the bottom with benches and BBQ area you can hang out at for a while. Dont think I will be going back soon though.
