Trail Description:
ATV trails that allow for mountain biking and hiking just the same. The trails go straight up from the time you get on the trail until the peak. The trails are built for ATV's, so the climbs are more steep than one may look forward to, and manicuring is limited to whatever is left out and about from the ATV tires. This can be an exhausting ride to the top, including areas that you will have to get off to get up. Sporadic flat trail allows for the speed to get up most other sections, but be in shape, its a long way to the top. From there, the trails are a solid ride down, not too many shape turns, but a slew of heavy grades to ride down. It may take an hour or more to get to the top, but it'll only take 10 minutes to get down.
How to get there:
From I-40W, Take 27 towards Western Carolina University/Atlanta/Waynesville. Get off US23 at exit 85 Sylva/WCU. Stay straight off the exit and about 3 miles ahead the road deadends at NC107. Head left. About 5-6 ahead is a turn to the left before the bridge for Old Cullowhee Road. Once on Old Cullowhee, head roughly 5 miles until a sign on the left for Wayehutta road (promnounced Worry-hut). Follow Wayehutta for 1.5 miles and stay left at the fork in the road. After crossing a small bridge, a sign for Wayehutta ATV trails should be visible to the right, hang the right. Stay straight on this road and it will become gravel, leading you into the trails some 3+/- miles later.
Additional Notes:
Note the trail map for sure before you leave. It'll seem like you're going forever away fro
