Trail Description:
This ride is long and pretty steep making it seem much longer. You will be puffing hard half way up the mountain unless your last name is Armstrong. Bring a lot of water especially if the weather is warm. The downhill ride is nuts! Watch out for sharp curves. It's probably not a bad idea to bring protective gear.
How to get there:
From State College: Take Route 45 down along Tussey Mountain. It is a very long ridge and the turn on to the road is somewhat easy to miss. Look for signs to Rothrock State Forest. If you reach Indian Caverns or Spruce Creek, then you have gone too far from State College.

Tussy is great. Yes, it is part of Rothrock St. Forest, but its called tussy mountain...hluv, get your facts. The rocks make the ride, so either get a better bike or improve your skills. It is renowned as a great trail, and every weekend I refresh my memory of why so many people like it. I also recomend the surrounding trails like John Wert, Longberger and others. You can get a map at any of the bike shops in State college. Always ride with a friend, broken bones creep up on you when your least expecting them. Oh, and one more thing...Real mtn bikers don't shave their legs...pet peave.

These trails are nice, there is a lot of stuff back
there that people dont know about. If you have time
to explore do it, you will be satisfied. A lot of the
trails are dirt roads, but there is also a lot of single
track. If you get the chance check it out, and if you
can, get a local to show you their favorit trail.

the guy who wrote about the trials aren't sweet must of been in the wrong area. i've been going to that area for 17 years and i'm only 19. there is not one bad trail back in the rothrock state forest, and tussey mnt. is just outside of the state forest. maybe you should try it again and know where you are going next time. just riding the roads are worth it, making a big loop in the mountain. maybe you should know what you are talking about before you get all fired up.

The first reviewer must be kidding. YES, there are rocks lots of them, but nothing to carry your bike over. And the claim that no one knows their way around is a load of crap, most people do.

did not like it to much, very, very rocky. nobody seems to know where there going(not even locals). the place is not tussey mt. it's the roth rock forest. I had to carry my bike on most of one trail going uphill. this was supposed to be one of the "Epic Rides" of the imba, I've had more fun riding in L.I.,N.Y.

These trails are great for everyone. They have dirt roads to start and great singletrack and rocky paths for more advanced riders. The scenery is unbeleivable. You have to check it out yourself.. oh yeah.. don't forget your helmet!!

Whoever gave the discription for this area must not have spent much time riding here. There is probably about 50 miles of sweet singletrack in rothtrock state forest, and another 100 miles or more of dirt roads. You can get to rothrock state forest from the Tussey Mountian Ski area just outside state college. Get the purple lizard trail map at a bike shop in town, which has all of the trails in this area on it. I reccomend the Reichley Trail (watch out it's steep), Spruce Gap Trail, Shingletown Gap trail, tussey mountian trail, and many of the other trails in the area. Give em all a try.
