Ride Summary:
Mostly on dirt roads but still challenging.
Trail Description:
Be aware and ride responsibly as all the lands that surround the Butterfield Canyon are privately owned. The main road is county maintained and is open to the public. Make sure to obey all signs restricting travel. Riverton is you last outpost for visitor services.
How to get there:
Traveling on I-15, take Exit 294 (Draper, Riverton) and head west on 12300 South (UT 71). Drive for 10 miles until you approach the High Country Estates. The road veers to the right and becomes UT111. Turn Left toward Butterfield Canyon. After three or four miles the road turns into dirt and gravel.

It paved for the first few miles, if you hang to the right when you get to the pass it's dirt road climb to the top of the mtn. Nice views of the Salt Lake Valley and the copper mine. the ATV trails are a fun ride

I hate to break to everyone but Butterfield canyon is paved 100% from the Salt Lake County side. I rode it today on a road bike. The only issue is there was a lot of dirt/gravel washed across the road in a few spots 2/3 of the way up. The rode is a grind. Keep in mind that there is auto traffic and the road is not 2 wide so be careful of cars to the front and back.
The decent is a test of the brakes and grip strength.
It is worth your time and a good option on the West side.
