Mount Zavizan Climb

Trail Description:
Trail starts from the coastal village Sv.Juraj 7 km south from Senj. Trek climbs continuously on a paved road to the mountain saddle at the village Oltari at 1000 m. From there it enters the National park Sjeverni Velebit and goes on unpaved road through the forest up to the mountain refuge Zavizan at 1568 m

Once in a year in June a race is organized starting from Sv.Juraj. Record time is under 3 hrs.

How to get there:
Airports Rijeka and Zagreb, Motorway Zagreb-Split, exit Senj. Train to Rijeka, continue by bus.

This year the amateur MTB race shall start on Saturday June 18th at 10:00 from the port of Senj and one hour later from Oltari 950 m higher. Infomation from the organizer www.tz-senj.hr .

The Guardian newspaper has published a report on the life of the meteorologist who lives at Zavizan observatory: http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/video/2011/apr/28/croatia-walking-velebit-national-park They did not mention the Eau de vie he makes from different herbs!
