Trail Description:
Most of the trails at Curt Gowdy State Park in southeast Wyoming were designed by IMBA and all are purpose-built for mountain biking. They range from easy to extreme. The rolling topography, punctuated by plentiful granite slabs and outcroppings, is ideal for all types of riders.
Beginners will enjoy the flat, smooth and wide trail which meanders almost three miles along the shoreline of Granite Springs Reservoir.
From the trailhead at Aspen Grove, a four-mile loop that traverses the park's northwest quadrant is ideal for the intermediate rider. The loop skirts the "Rock Gym," which features a network of technically challenging alternate routes.
Other loops located north and south of the trailhead are designed for more advanced riders who enjoy tackling numerous tight spots and rock hurdles.
A must for expert riders are "The Slabs" atop Corkscrew Hill (south from the causeway), with sustained grades ranging from 30 to 40 degrees-plus. Use extra caution when descending the aptly named "Fishtail Slab"!) Another trail which parallels the park's west boundary offers an alternate slab route which will tax even the strongest and fittest riders.
How to get there:
From Cheyenne: West on WYO 210 (Happy Jack Road) approx. 25 miles; turn left into Curt Gowdy State Park. After entrance station, take first right turn and proceed a short distance to Aspen Grove Trailhead.
From Laramie: East on I-80 to Summit Interchange (exit 323); then east on WYO 210 about 13 miles; turn right into state park.
Additional Notes:
Nominal fee for entrance to state park.
Aggressive riders should double up on protective gear --

that they are going to continue to build and imprvoe the park. If you go The trail map is great, every intersection is numbered and you can easily find your place on the full color map provided by the park. They have nice camping on sight. It's almost imposible to ride every trail in one day.Ride the Downhill park first then concentrate on the upper trails.Hit all the play areas, they have great features. The green trails are like sidewalks, avoid these.Ride the road to move quickly between the upper and lower areas of the park.Bring your fishing rod (if you fish)Big knobby tires are better than fast rolling micro-knobs.The rock is very course, either don't fall or wear long sleeves and pants.Bring your camera.
