Trail Description:
Otero Canyon is all singletrack. It is petty rocky for the most part with a few soft meadows in between. It can be steep in sections.
How to get there:
Take i-40 east to 337 south. about 3 miles south after 2 large rock walls on the right side.
Additional Notes:
Take spare tubes. Pump up tires rock hard for the descent.

There are still planty of miles of singletrack here that are legal. Ride with someone who knows the area, or be prepared to backtrack since there are many intersections. If you know the area you can easily put together 30 miles of singletrack. Tubeless + Stans will save you from flats.

Rode the trail yesterday. I didn't go up to the Fire tower at the top, which used to be shut down post 9/11. Did NOT run into the fence that was "temporarily" closing the area. It's rockier than ever maybe due to increase ORV use.

Only a very small part of this trail remains open. The military base reclaimed the land and has cut fence lines through the trees and has posted "No Entry" signs on all trails where they cross the boundry. Fencing will be erected in the near future. Sorry!

Get a map from Two Wheel Drive Bike Shop or at the Ranger station just south of I40 on 337 called "The Trails of Cedro Peak & Otero Canyon"($6.50). Even with this map it is difficult to navigate this extensive trail network (see also Cedro Peak)

Forest Service has cut a beautifully graded new trail 3/4 of a mile north of the old starting point. New trail at the far SW end is also great. The trails here are excellent for good bikers, get a map at Two Wheel drive in Albuquerque.
