Trail Description:
This is yet another highly scenic trail that Colorado offers to it's MTBers. Nothing technical stands out in my mind. It is a very nice loop offering both single and doubletrack.

How to get there:
From Vail: Take North Frontage Rd and climb up Red Sandstone Rd for a few mmiles. Go right on FS786 to the Lost Lake trailheads.

The climb from I-70 is laid out well as it gets flatter the further you go up. The last bit of climb after the left across from the party campsite is pretty rocky and rooty all the way to the lake. Nice warm lake for swimming. 2 pretty long hike-a-bikes above the lake (NE) are the last pushes before a fast and fun descent. When you hit Piney road cross the street and ride up 754 to get to the fun way down - on buffehr creek trail. Halfway down take a left onto the north trail for a flatter descent to sandstone road, straight/right for a steep descent to West Vail. 2750 vertical foot descent - 98% singletrack. Do it.

I travelled from N.Ireland in summer '97 to Vail and took in this trail and it did not disapoint! The single track was out of this world and I enjoyed it more than Aspen which we also travelled to on that tour.
